NEA seeks applications for its Director of Governance and Policy Support (GPS).
The Director serves as a member of the Association's executive management team, participates in the development and administration of the Association's strategic plan/initiatives and budget; provides leadership, and sets direction on meeting logistics, agenda, and actions of the annual meetings of the Executive Committee, meetings of the Board of Directors, and the Annual Meeting and Representative Assembly. The department also coordinates committee meetings of Representative Assembly, Strategic Priority, and Advisory Standing Committee meetings of the Association, supports the work of the NEA President, Vice President, and Secretary-Treasurer; and oversees the logistics and arrangements for the Winter and Summer meetings of the NEA Resolutions Committee; the Committee on Constitution, Bylaws, and Rules; and the Elections Committee. The department is comprised of fourteen professional and support staff. The Director reports directly to the Executive Director.

Extensive leadership and collaboration skills that produce effective results with a vision for dynamic and progressive Governance and Policy programs that meet the needs of a changing association.
Proven ability to align GPS policy with organizational strategy and initiatives to include collaborating with officers and stakeholders to develop/implement programs and policies and in advocating on behalf of members.
Thorough working knowledge and understanding of governance structures and operations.
Demonstrated policy analysis, crisis management, problem solving, and consultation abilities.
Experience in project management issues, including budgeting and finance.
Proven skill in administering, developing, implementing, interpreting, and evaluating organizational policies.
Effective skills in supervision, decision-making, negotiations, oral/written communications, including effective presentation skills, policy analysis, interpersonal relations, team building, collaboration, financial management, and personal computer basics.
High performance standards of excellence and personal integrity.
Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
A relevant graduate degree (desirable).
Frequent travel required.
