Upstate Medical University
The Director for Governmental Relations serves as the confidential advisor to the President and Senior Leadership of SUNY Upstate Medical University on matters related to public affairs and governmental relations. S/he assists in maintaining effective communications with NYS legislative, local government, and national and international public affairs interest organizations as these relate to higher education, health care and economic development; also, assists in maintaining effective public affairs and governmental relations in adherence to SUNY policy, State laws and regulations and developing strategic legislative and advocacy agenda.
Current NYS licensed/registered M.D. Board certified in related specialty required. Minimum of 5 years of primary care experience required. Excellent interpersonal and administrative skills required. Experience with department administration and occupational health is desirable.
Advanced Graduate Degree required. Minimum of five years of progressive experience working with legislative and regulatory groups, performing lobbying and involving coalitions; prior public affairs/relations experience in a healthcare related environment; strong organizational, analytical, and motivational skills; excellent written/oral communication skills required; and a demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and to respond to sensitive situations effectively and efficiently. Juris Doctor preferred.
