Executive Communications Manager Position:

The Executive Communications Manager leads strategic communications for the USGBC executive office, supporting the CEO and departmental leaders with internal and external communications across multiple formats and channels. Reporting to the Chief of Staff and working closely with USGBC’s marketing and communications department, this position is instrumental in refining executive communications strategy, elevating the voice of organizational leaders, highlighting USGBC’s industry and thought leadership, and strengthening USGBC’s communication of its mission, brand, and value to global stakeholders and communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the principal writer and messaging strategist supporting the CEO and departmental leaders (Chief Operating Officer, Chief Products Officer, Chief Growth Officer) with presentations and speeches, articles and announcements, panel discussions, interviews, videos, and correspondence.
  • Craft engaging, impactful, audience-specific narratives that reflect the voice of USGBC leaders and advance the organization’s mission, position, work and influence.
  • Develop and implement executive communications strategies aligned with broader USGBC marketing and communication’s goals and industry trends.
  • Conduct research and consult internal and external experts and sources to gather relevant background and insights to inform executive communications.
  • Ensure mission, vision, and brand identity consistency across all deliverables and channels.

Education and Training Requirements/Preferences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field. Masters preferred.
  • Building industry or corporate sustainability experience preferred.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum six years of professional experience in executive or corporate communications, public affairs, journalism, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience as an executive speechwriter.
  • Exceptional written and visual storytelling skills, including success developing keynote presentations for business and/or nonprofit executives.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and produce clear and compelling narratives.
  • Experience developing and executing strategic communications plans.
  • Intuition and understanding of how to communicate effectively with diverse global audiences and stakeholders.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
