DescriptionThe External Relations Manager will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of a comprehensive external relations strategy to support MoneyGram’s overall global business objectives. The position will play an important supporting role in implementing an effective external relations strategy involving a host of stakeholders. This is a hands-on role which will require the incumbent to leverage a thorough understanding of government relations, including both U.S. and international, external communications, corporate strategy, the money transfer business as well as policy and political developments in the U.S. and globally. In addition, in order to support and execute the external relations program, the successful candidate will be responsible for researching and drafting memoranda and talking points in collaboration with colleagues in different parts of MoneyGram for use by executives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the development and implementation of external relations strategies and documents for the Legal department, which has a global reach. This includes, but is not limited to, the research for and the drafting of memoranda, talking points, power point decks, and other documents for use by executives and working collaboratively with different parts of the business to develop these items.
  • Develops, drafts, coordinates and refreshes core external relations messages.
  • Coordinates various projects, including the participation of MoneyGram in external forums.
  • Manages a project tracker with relevant information about each project, status, due outs, and due dates as well as a library of external relations memorandum, talking points, and other documents.
  • As directed, represents the company at external relations related meetings and events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including related to the PAC and the money transfer association.

Qualifications

Education

  • BA/BS.
  • Graduate degree preferred.

Experience

  • 7+ years, preferably working in a government relations or related capacity.

Essential Skills

  • Excellent writing, research, and briefing issue skills.
  • Excellent oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and understanding of protocol requirements.
  • Strong understanding of domestic and international government relations.
  • Strong interest in global business and in the remittance/financial services space.
  • Strong understanding of how to frame issues and messaging as well as how to communicate complicated issues in a clear, understandable, and compelling manner.
  • Superior judgment.
