About the Climate Action Campaign

The Climate Action Campaign (CAC) is a highly effective, vibrant coalition of national environmental, environmental justice, and public health groups. The CAC serves as an important center of gravity and convening body for dozens of organizations working together to advance federal climate action.

The CAC was instrumental in passing the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. Highlights include orchestrating hundreds of lobby meetings, thousands of field events, a multi-level, sustained communications campaign, as well as working behind the scenes and across the coalition to establish and maintain strategic direction.

Government Affairs Manager Position

The Government Affairs Manager is a member of the Government Affairs Team and reports to the Director of Government Affairs. The Climate Action Campaign is based in Washington D.C. Visit us online at: actonclimate.com.

Responsibilities

Advocacy and Administrative Communications Management and Execution (40%)

  • Maintain and build external relationships with CAC coalition members, partners, and allies.
  • Develop a deep familiarity with CAC’s administrative agenda.
  • Serve as the CAC liaison to key administrative staff.
  • Support coalition engagement with agency officials and staff.
  • Identify, propose, and execute tactics that advance the regulatory agenda.
  • Track developments, announcements, and policies coming from the Biden administration.
  • Assist with tracking the broader policy landscape.

Coalition Support (30%)

  • Assist the Deputy Director of Government Affairs in setting the agenda for regular meetings of the CAC administrative strategy group (ASG).
  • Support the ASG by driving shared advocacy campaigns.
  • Advise and assist CAC staff and vendors in working with key administration offices.
  • Create and maintain feedback loops between the ASG, other CAC staff, and state and local partners.

Planning, Reporting, and Other Activities (30%)

  • Contribute to annual and quarterly planning and goal-setting for administrative activity.
  • Track and report administrative activity.
  • Attend briefings, meetings, and events.
  • Manage internal administrative tracking.
  • Write and disseminate talking points, resources, activity reports, and other materials.

Requirements

  • At least 3-4 years of experience in advocacy or political campaigns.
  • Ability to communicate and build collaborative relationships.
  • Familiarity with climate policy.
  • Strong communication, writing, and project management skills.
  • Experience working in coalitions.
  • High degree of professionalism and cultural competency.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and with others.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work with attention to detail.
  • Ability to react with appropriate urgency.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and database/spreadsheet functions.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
