Purpose of the Position:
Reporting to the Latam VP of Government Affairs, the candidate is responsible for proactively assessing, influencing, and shaping the rapidly evolving policy environment in close collaboration and partnering with internal stakeholders.
Critical to the success of this position will be the ability to both anticipate and serve the needs of the operating company in such a way that they are able to sustain and grow their business.
The candidate will have a proven track record of developing and driving innovative initiatives, creating value for the business, and strengthening corporate reputation, in accordance with the highest ethical standards and compliant with local laws and the US Federal Corrupt Practices Act.
Description of the Role:
The manager will support the development of public policy and government relations strategies.
This role requires a pro-active, driven, innovative and people-oriented person that will help shape public policy in support of company priorities.
The position requires a thorough understanding of the regulatory and legislative processes, and experience with trade association management, reputation building, and stakeholder engagement. Of importance will be the ability to excell in a matriz organization, build internal alliances, and lead when necessary.
The candidate will develop a thorough understanding of Janssen’s and Medical Device´s products and the public market dynamics.
1.Identify issues (at the federal legislative and executive branches) that are relevant to Medical Devices & Janssen’s BUs; assess business impact of proposed initiatives
2.Develop & execute advocacy strategies to advance Medical Devices & Janssen’s business interests; map key stakeholders, identify their positions, prepare background papers and talking points
3.Prepare and coordinate a pro-active Government Affairs schedule with the involvement and participation of local business leaders, the General Manager and relevant staff
4.Take the lead at local the local industry trade associations; participate in Committes, attend conferences and meetings, gather critical information, and communicate company position when appropriate
5.Help liaison with government officials
6.Respond promptly to internal customer requests;
7.Establish trusting relationships with policymakers and NGOs to support public policy
8.Support market access and market development initiatives that drive better public health, health outcomes, and patient safety
9.Help build alliances and coalitions with healthcare stakeholders including patient associations, key opinion leaders, professional societies, industry, NGOs, and healthcare providers
10.Support the development of corporate reputation initiatives
11.Help identify trends in public policy that could impact the company positively or negatively; lay out rationale and response
12.Provide insights (from a government point of view) in a crisis management situation
1) Education level required:BA/BS in public policy, public health, politics, law, communications, international relations, etc. Masters Degree a plus
2) Years of Experience: 5+ years of government affairs experience; related experience working at regulatory bodies, government, or trade associations accepted; as well as a combination of both
4) Required skills:Thinks strategically; focuses on customer needs; builds a diverse culture of collaboration and learning; executes decisions and delivers results;
demonstrates accountability and credibility; supports Corporate Values as laid out by the Credo;
has strong interpersonal and communication skills, has strong management skills; knows how to prepare impacful presentations; has strong analytical skills.
Has following qualities: analyze, classify, compare, coordinate, detect, diagnose, estimate, evaluate, interview, influence, inspect, instruct, interpret, read, measure, negotiate, observe, plan; works under pressure; able to make sound decisions and exercise good judgment under special conditions.
5) Required Experience:3-5 years of experience in the health sector and in the corporate environment a plus; Proven, tangible success in driving pro-active public policy/government relations initiatives;
Experience in fields of policy, legal, or economics, understanding of the political environment; Proven track record with impeccable ethics history; Experience developing partnerships with NGOs, academia, and think tanks a plus
