Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest) is seeking an individual to provide research support to the organization through the publication of original external-related, policy-based research, including analysis of federal and state anti-hunger and nutrition support programs, legislation, and programs of Feeding America.
Manage quadrennial hunger study and annual updates, including overseeing data collection, analysis, and reporting. Manage other external policy research projects, including the Hunger Almanac, federal commodities, child nutrition, and original food stamp research. Oversee all intranet surveys. Tasks include survey design, implementation, and analysis when needed. In addition, work with members of intranet web staff to select a new survey tool that will allow for more advanced data gathering and analysis. Oversee selection and implementation of statistical software. Supervise Research Assistant. Serve as liaison between department and paid consultants. Collect, monitor, analyze and compare quantitative data from federal and state food assistance and commodity distribution programs, policies and regulations. Monitor and analyze federal and state policies and legislation affecting Feeding America emergency food providers and low-income people. Provide technical assistance to Members in their own policy analysis and research projects. Serve as departmental lead on technical assistance to other departments, including Communications, Resource Development, and Capability Development. Provide strategic counsel to Department Director on research priorities. Uphold the nationally recognized expertise of Feeding America on policy & research within the fields of food assistance and poverty.
BA/BS required. Must have 4+ years experience in public policy, advocacy or policy research work. Understanding of the basic principles of social science research and statistical analysis. Experience with hunger, poverty-related or policy research organization required. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Ability to think creatively and strategically as part of a team and within broad coalitions. Proficient in MS Office applications. 10% - 20% travel required.
