The National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium, a small but growing non-profit, is building a team that will support career technical education students. We are seeking an experienced professional who has a strong work ethic, outstanding communications skills, and sound judgment. A positive, energetic, willing-to-pitch-in attitude is essential.
The Public Policy Manager is tasked with tracking, understanding, and influencing legislation being considered by the United States Congress. The successful candidate will also represent the association at policy related events in the Washington, DC area and nationally. At least three years experience in a political or policy environment is required. Knowledge of NCLB, Workforce Investment Act and/or the education authorizing committees of Congress is a plus.
Duties include a wide range of activities:
Actively pursue public policy advocacy relationships to form alliances that support the organization in meeting established organization goals and objectives; including participating on appropriate committees and making presentations and preparing relevant and timely advocacy materials,
Monitor and track legislation and initiatives impacting career technical education while establishing positive relationships on Capitol Hill,
Respond to member requests in the policy arena,
Monitor the development and the analysis of policy and research and provide summaries as requested,
Prepare required Congressional lobbying reports and monitor and respond to relevant Federal Register notices,
Attend and support association committees and conferences,
Travel on behalf of the association and be available to work flexible hours in response to legislative requests and actions.
