SUMMARY: 

The Senior Manager, Patient Assistance and Advocacy will manage the day-to-day operations of the company’s programs to support underserved patients. This includes needing to support access and affordability to Lundbeck’s portfolio of products, as well as Lundbeck’s patient assistant programs and charitable/philanthropic non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and coalitions. The individual in this role will also develop and drive the advocacy strategy in support of these programs, collaborating with patient and professional organizations as appropriate, and developing champions at the federal and state level.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Direct, develop and execute Lundbeck’s patient assistance programs:
    • Handle project management of Lundbeck’s PAP programs and charitable foundation support, including exception inquiries and funding requests
    • Develop and create program reports, and create and obtain approvals for all internal and external written and verbal communications relating to the programs
    • Serve as convener of Lundbeck’s internal patient assistance committee
    • Liaise with Lundbeck’s hub provider and specialty pharmacies, including training them on the program rules and providing needed communications guidance
    • Assist with drafting SOPs. Ensure all PAP and other patient support programs and practices comply with all laws, regulations and industry guidelines including, but not limited to requirements of CMS, OIG, and FDA; develop and implement related policies, processes and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
    • Update programs and strategy based on legal and regulatory guidance
    • Manage Lundbeck’s communication efforts ensuring consistent messaging to patients/physicians as appropriate
    • Provide subject matter expertise and assist in developing and preparing written responses to ad hoc external and government requests for policy information related to patient assistance programs
  • Develop and maintain effective working business relationships:
    • With internal colleagues in departments impacted by patient assistance programs and activities including Legal, Compliance, Finance, and Drug Development to support and strengthen the development of related Lundbeck policies, processes and reporting (financial or otherwise)
    • With external colleagues across the pharmaceutical industry, such as representing Lundbeck on PhRMA’s Patient Assistance Program Advisory Board and PhRMA’s We Work for Health program
  • Drive advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C. that advance Lundbeck’s business objectives and the objectives of the non-profit organizations. Build and maintain collaborative, mutually-beneficial interactions with key patient advocacy and professional associations.  Prioritize the organizations with which to partner. Proactively advocate the company’s priorities and objectives with opinion leaders at targeted organizations with direct one-on-one meetings and ongoing contact.
  • Collaborate with the Public Affairs team’s efforts to advance Lundbeck’s corporate reputation, promoting Lundbeck through advocacy efforts as an economic driver and innovative company.
  • Assist with project management, guidance and oversight on various Government Affairs programs and initiatives, including LuPAC (Lundbeck’s political action committee), and patient advocacy engagement.
    • Manage LuPAC financial reporting and other compliance obligations directly and through LuPAC’s third party service provider, LuPAC receipts and disbursements, budget and record-keeping; manage meetings of LuPAC’s Board of Directors and officers.
    • Support fundraising and membership development goals and programs for LuPAC; collaborate with GEA leadership regarding strategies and objectives; lead implementation of the same in order to expand LuPAC capabilities and engagement.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:

  • Accredited Bachelor’s degree.
  • 7+ year’s progressive healthcare industry experience.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Track record of well-reasoned judgement.
  • Previous experience working with a cross-functional team, but also working independently with limited oversight.
  • Ability to structure and execute projects independently, within deadlines.
  • Strong stakeholder management experience.
  • Ability to partner, build relationships and influence decision making, internally to Lundbeck and externally in the pharmaceutical industry, as well as with third party organizations such as advocacy organizations.
  • Ability to manage complex issues and projects, to think strategically, and to understand details.
  • Extensive understanding of the pharmaceutical and/or healthcare industry and the competitive environment.  Excellent collaboration skills and demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, and to deal well with competing priorities and a changing business environment.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Pharmaceutical/Biotech experience
  • Knowledge of patient assistance programs.
  • Knowledge and current expertise of HIPAA, OIG, CMS and privacy and regulatory statutes.

TRAVEL:

  • Willingness/Ability to travel up to 10% domestically
