Advocacy Specialist

The Alzheimer's Association is the world's leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. POSITION PURPOSE:

The Alzheimer's Association National Office is looking for a dynamic, experienced professional to implement state and federal grassroots advocacy efforts; Maximize the use of cost-effective internet and other electronic technology to advance the advocacy goals of the Association; Provide quality e-advocacy technical assistance to Association staff.  This position is based in Washington, DC.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

-Organize and provide support to online and offline advocacy tactics to recruit, educate and engage advocates. Provide functional knowledge and system expertise to promote effective use of and improvements to the grassroots advocacy program. Implement Action Alerts and e-newsletters. Gather and report on advocate and action item data.  Provide recommendations to Supervisor for improvements and changes to methods.

-Provide technical assistance to chapter staff for e-advocacy and interactive voice recognition (IVR) programs. Implement and manage training curriculum and materials for e-advocacy and interactive voice recognition (IVR) programs. Curriculum includes web-based training.

-Manage web content for Advocacy and Public Policy Division to ensure consistency of messages and increase online advocate recruitment. Oversee e-advocacy information flow with Association network. Maintain chapter Advocate webpage consistency.

-Manage chapter Advocacy and Public Policy staff directory and National Alzheimer Advocacy database (Kintera). Manage Advocacy and Public Policy Division's general email account by responding, posting and distributing emails to the appropriate staff person.

-Provide technical assistance to the Division's operation of the U.S. Administration on Aging's Alzheimer's Disease Demonstration Grants to States (ADDGS) National Resource Center's Technical Assistance Center. Includes support for monthly teleconferences, annual meetings of ADDGS grantees and Technical Assistance Center product dissemination.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

-Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Communications or equivalent work experience

-1-3 years work experience in political or community organizing

-Experience in database management

-Experience in html programming and web design

-Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, including quick turnaround communication

-Possess critical thinking skills and work effectively both alone or as part of a team
