Modern public affairs teams are increasingly working and collaborating across geographic, political and cultural boundaries. This workshop will explore strategies for how to set up a global public affairs function and case studies and tips for managing a diverse team. it will also share culturally sensitive and inclusive practices that leaders, managers and teams can follow in an increasingly digital age.

This program is eligible for 2 specialization credits toward the Certificate in Government Relations and Lobbying and 2 elective credits toward the Certificate in Public Affairs Management.

Agenda

9:00 – 10:00 a.m.     Session 1 – Setting up a global public affairs function

The first session of our workshop will focus on the key challenges and priorities leaders need to consider to set up a successful global public affairs function. Speakers will discuss:

  • How to tie business and public affairs goals and defining metrics for measuring global impact
  • Setting up a successful team and attracting (and retaining) talent in different geographies
  • Managing internal expectations and communicating success (and failure)
  • How to raise the internal profile and the strategic position of the public affairs function within your organisation

The second session of our workshop will explore best practices in leading diverse global teams, fostering internal collaboration and inclusion, and empowering staff. Speakers will discuss:

  • Ensuring consistent communication between various teams, regional offices and headquarters
  • Managing multicultural public affairs teams in an increasingly virtual environment
  • Integrating diversity of thought into strategic planning and team dialogue
  • Making equity, diversity and inclusion a central aspect of your strategy to attract, retain and manage talent
