A legislative body may pass a law, but regulators give the law its teeth. Learn and hone tested strategies and tactics for influencing regulation and rulemaking in a way that’s helpful for your organization.

This program is eligible for 2 elective credits toward the Certificate in PAC & Grassroots Management and 2 elective credits toward the Certificate in Public Affairs Management.

As a CAE Approved Provider educational program related to the CAE exam content outline, this program may be applied for 2 credits toward your CAE application or renewal professional development requirements.

2:15-3:15- How to Influence Regulation

  • How key distinctions between the legislative and regulatory processes should impact your public affairs approach
  • Best practices for coordinating regulatory advocacy with broader advocacy efforts, such as lobbying and grassroots
  • Ways to increase the impact of your regulatory advocacy efforts, such as key groups to join

3:15-3:30- Networking Break

3:30-4:15- How to Build Effective Infrastructure

  • Steps to build a strong regulatory advocacy function, including sample staffing structures
  • Methods for monitoring, prioritizing and communicating internally about regulation before it affects your company’s bottom line
  • Metrics for showcasing the regulatory function’s value to the rest of your organization
