Rulemaking is an essential part of the lawmaking process, and often overlooked as an important advocacy tool at the state level. Every state handles the regulatory process differently! Join us to hear strategies for navigating and influencing this complex but increasingly important landscape – even amid COVID-19.


1:30-2:30- Understanding and Incorporating State Regulatory Advocacy

Whether you are just getting started or looking to expand your state regulatory advocacy efforts, this session will give you the overview and building blocks you need. Our experts will cover:

  • Understanding the state rulemaking landscape
  • Methods for monitoring and prioritizing regulations
  • Coordinating regulatory advocacy with your other state and federal advocacy strategies

2:30-2:45- Break

2:45-3:45- State Regulatory Advocacy Techniques that Work

Once you understand the big picture, how can you effectively impact the way regulations are written and passed? Our experts will walk you through strategies and examples that will include:

  • Creating state regulatory advocacy plans that work
  • Using regulations as a way to bypass unfriendly legislatures
  • Cases studies of success

3:45-4:00- Break

4:00-4:30- Tracking and Measuring Efforts 

To get the support and resources you need, your advocacy efforts shouldn’t be directed at external audiences only, but internal audiences as well. We’ll conclude our workshop by sharing:

  • Methods for communicating internally about regulation before it affects your company’s bottom line
  • Metrics for showcasing the regulatory function’s value to the rest of your organization
