No matter what advocacy challenges your organization is facing, it’s important to have a strategic issues management process in place. Issues management is your Public Affairs team’s key to anticipating problems before they arise and minimizing concerns before they become major challenges.

This program is eligible for 2 Core credits towards the Certificate in Public Affairs Management, 2 Elective credits towards the Certificate in PAC and Grassroots Management and 2 Specialization credits toward the Certificate in Government Relations and Lobbying.

Agenda

2:00 p.m. Issues Management Best Practices from Three Perspectives

Hear ideas, strategies, and best practices from the association, corporation, and consultant perspective. Our experts will share how to anticipate which issues are most likely to show up and how to address them in a systematic fashion, and walk through benefits of forming and managing a fully integrated team made up of the right players. This session will cover:

  • Decision matrixes for allocating your time and resources
  • Profiles of effective structures
  • Ways to seek out enterprise-wide perspectives
  • How to map your issues for importance to the company and impact
  • Creating agreement on priorities and crafting a communications plan around them
  • Tools for monitoring and tracking critical issues and legislation
  • How established issues management teams may pivot to reflect a new administration, changes in Congress, increasingly active state legislatures and shifts in global priorities
