Due to COVID-19, we’ve found new ways to connect with advocates, team members and legislators. The shift to virtual platforms has forced us to embrace livestreaming, virtual presentations and all the accompanying possibilities. These types of virtual events will likely remain a part of our professional lives even after COVID-19. Join us and learn how to take your virtual program to the next level with keys for creating engaging, informative and impressive livestreams.


This program is eligible for 2 Grassroots Specialization credits toward the Certificate in PAC & Grassroots Management, 2 Specialization credits toward the Certificate in Government Relations and Lobbying and 2 Elective credits toward the Certificate in Public Affairs Management.


10:00 a.m. Setting Up Your Livestream and Producing Engaging Live Content

Whether you are running a Zoom meeting, hosting a webinar, speaking with a reporter or going live on social media, your online presentation skills must be sharp. During this session we will cover:

  • Proper camera placement, lighting and audio set up
  • Creating a professional background or room
  • Understanding live streaming platforms and reaching audiences
  • Tactics and strategies to produce successful livestreamed events

11:15 a.m. Presentation Skills for Virtual Formats

During an online presentation, we must be able to convince, persuade and inspire. However, both COVID-19 and decreasing attention spans pose challenges. During our second session of the day we will address:

  • Structuring your presentation for an easily distracted audience
  • Developing compelling PowerPoints and graphics that can illustrate your arguments
  • Tactics for engaging audiences, addressing difficult questions and cultivating an online following

This event will be hosted in a secure virtual environment.

*Participants joining the program virtually will receive an email one week beforehand with instructions for logging on to our web-based platform. On the platform, they will be able to listen and participate through any computer or internet-enabled device, see a video of the speakers, and ask questions and participate in the discussion via a chat box.
