General Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Political Science, Communications or Public Relations preferred
  • Minimum of one to five years of relevant experience

  • Forward-thinking and anticipatory planning skills
  • Social media expertise
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities
  • An understanding of the Southern California media market and/or existing relationships with local, regional, state and national journalists
  • An understanding of the Southern California political landscape and existing relationships with local municipalities are a plus

 

 
General Duties

 

  • Develop and implement tactical components of client communications programs
  • Serve as a primary client contact and supervise the work of other agency staff on the account
  • Supervise junior staff to support client media relations, community relations and strategic communications services
  • Develop client-ready materials including presentations, media materials, speeches, news releases, newsletters and other collateral materials
  • Act as the media contact for clients, develop and maintain relationships with relevant members of media members
  • Assist with the development of workflows, budgets and other tools to keep projects and teams on track
  • Develop and execute plans for community events/briefings, news conferences, media pitching and crisis comms, as needed
  • Participate in business development, RFP preparation and new client presentations
