About the Team

Airbnb is hiring an Advocacy Associate to join the well-established Advocacy & Policy Media team within the Public Policy department.

The Advocacy team at Airbnb is the rapid response, political activation, and policy advocacy team within Public Policy, dedicated to engaging our host and guest community in the regulatory conversation around short-term rentals. The Advocacy team maintains an integrated approach to organizing, utilizing both digital tactics and proven best practices of low-touch community organizing, to inspire our hosts and guests to take political action. The Advocacy team operates in sync with Public Policy stakeholders to influence active legislation, connect our community with lawmakers, drive strategic partnerships and federal initiatives, and support broader department priorities.

About the Role

Advocacy Associates will draft, develop and execute integrated host activation plans and programs to support policy objectives. Associates will primarily utilize digital tools to engage, recruit, and inform hosts to drive political actions in response to active or developing legislation. Associates will mobilize hosts through a variety of digital channels, including web, email, social media, and video conferencing. In addition, Associates will also be responsible for advocacy-related content production and management.

Associates will be responsible for email and other in-product communications, community engagement on social media platforms, advocacy campaign content production via third-party organizing tools, transactional messaging to support regulatory requirements, content monitoring, and production of other various advocacy-related web and multimedia content as needed. Associates will create content for advocacy based activations, including posts for Facebook groups and Facebook ads with CTA’s, materials for hosts to use and share, and call scripts for vendors. Associates will provide data insights and analysis of campaigns/content on a regular basis.

Associates will also engage in limited relational organizing with leaders of host clubs and organizations to maximize the impact of our community in public forums and conversations with lawmakers. Associates will serve as liaisons between host leaders and campaign teams. Associates will develop materials and hold webinars to educate hosts on policy issues, civic engagement, and media relations. Additionally, Associates will own and manage host story repositories, and channel host feedback and insights to various company stakeholders.


  • 2-4 years of professional experience in community organizing within political campaigns, technology companies, or grassroots campaigns
  • Advanced knowledge in all aspects of grassroots advocacy campaigns, including digital organizing, community mobilization, volunteer recruitment, leadership development, and training facilitation.
  • Experience with digital content creation (especially email) and other written materials for advocacy or issue-based campaigns
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal teams and stakeholders
  • Creative mindset and ability to solve problems, take full ownership, and handle a fast-paced and changing environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Work with Regional Advocacy Managers, Campaign Managers, and Policy Associates to implement organizing strategies and tactics to accomplish the specific policy and electoral goals of the local team
  • Execute all day-to-day organizing needs of assigned local team(s); and communicate regularly and often with assigned team(s)
  • Develop and execute digital advocacy plans and campaigns using tools such as Salesforce, Phone2Action, Mixmax, and others.
  • Ideate, write, process, and deploy email and other digital communications for activation and informational purposes to our community.


  • Develop and execute digital advocacy campaigns
    • Draft and deploy written communications to drive host participation in civic processes
    • Facilitate host<>lawmaker contact and lobbying
    • Use tools and connect host stories with paid media and Comms teams
    • Coordinate with third-party host groups for advocacy needs
    • Select, manage, and deploy digital advocacy tools both on the platform and from third parties
    • Utilize performance metrics and adopt data driven strategies to drive outcomes
    • Develop host-facing materials and hold trainings relevant to policy objectives
  • Develop social media campaigns:
    • Develop targeting for social media campaigns and/or other digital media, build posts on our internal social platform and work with an external vendor to launch and monitor campaigns
    • Ideate, write, process and deploy Advocacy CTA social media posts and engage with community Facebook groups
  • Assist with day-to-day content creation as assigned
    • Find creative ways to identify and feature compelling community stories online
    • Support local campaign pods and create digital content which may include but is not limited to:
      • Community interviews and short stories
      • Writing and editing short-form content
      • Building digital advocacy tools (sign-ups, petitions, event RSVPs, etc)
      • Posting and engaging on social media
    • Track and manage internal content approvals
  • Execute time-sensitive requests; and navigate Airbnb processes and policies
  • Maintain high level of professionalism and flexibility to support a wide variety of department goals and initiatives
