America Forward’s Advocacy Associate is a permanent role that will begin with responsibility for supporting the America Forward Coalition’s 2020 policy work for the current election cycle, with specific focus on America Forward’s new education initiative dedicated to whole-child approaches to learning in early education and K-12 policy. This initiative will include developing policy proposals and briefing documents, coordinating and executing large-scale conversations highlighting whole-child-informed policy in early learning and K-12 education within the context of the 2020 Presidential election, and delivering trainings to increase the advocacy capacity of America Forward Coalition members. While the position’s primary focus will be in education, the Advocacy Associate will also have the opportunity to support America Forward’s full policy agenda, from early learning, to K-12 education, to post-secondary education, to workforce development, to pay for success/evidence-based policy, to national service, to criminal justice reform. Specifically, the Advocacy Associate will assist with the America Forward Coalition’s federal collective advocacy efforts, America Forward Advocacy Institute training offerings, and America Forward’s field engagement efforts focused on amplifying the policy goals of the America Forward Coalition both in the 2020 Presidential election cycle and beyond.
A skilled communicator, adept writer, and self-starter with strong organizational and execution skills, the Advocacy Associate will synthesize complex ideas, research policy issues, and plan and support the execution of internal and external events. These events will be virtual for the foreseeable future under current circumstances but will eventually take place in person once it is safe to do so.
Based in Washington DC, the Advocacy Associate will report directly to the Executive Director of America Forward, work closely with America Forward’s Advocacy Director, meaningfully engage with the entire America Forward team and external policy and political consultants, and play a vital role in ensuring America Forward achieves its ambitious advocacy goals.
