Position Summary

(ISC)² is expanding its Global Advocacy team and is seeking an Advocacy Director to help support our global advocacy strategy while also operating as the lead advocate in advancing the organization’s public policy and thought leadership goals in the United States.



  • Serve as the lead US public policy advocate for (ISC)², building and maintaining strong relationships in the US Congress, the Administration, government agencies (CISA, NIST, DoD, etc.), state governments and the larger cybersecurity policy community
  • Educate US policymakers about (ISC)², its certifications and its priorities and position the organization as a highly trusted resource
  • Track legislation, hearings, rules, regulations, public comment periods, and various government policy proposals in the US related to cybersecurity policy
  • Identify emerging political risks and opportunities in the US and formulate appropriate responses to advance the best interests of (ISC)², its membership and the public
  • Launch legislative and other campaigns in the US to advance (ISC)²’s public policy goals, including overseeing the drafting of legislation, the building of coalitions, the creation of educational campaigns, and coordinating with (ISC)² Communications/Media team to drive and manage media coverage
  • Ensure organizational compliance with all relevant US federal and state advocacy and lobbying laws
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to promote US and state-level government recognition, protection and adoption of (ISC)² certifications through public policy
  • Implement a strategy to build goodwill and (ISC)² brand recognition with US federal and state public policymakers


  • Drive the organization’s effort to develop public policy recommendations to address the current US and global cybersecurity workforce shortage and skills gap
  • Support the development of educational materials, position papers, research, testimony, public comment letters, multimedia, presentations, web content, and social media which advance the organization’s advocacy goals across various channels
  • Support the Global Advocacy team’s efforts to: monitor global political and policy intelligence; evolve and advance its thought leadership strategies; track and influence government standards setting initiatives related to cybersecurity; and advance government recognition and adoption of (ISC)² certifications
  • Represent the organization and advance its advocacy goals in other countries or regions as assigned
  • Represent (ISC)² at conferences, meetings, and other events
  • Facilitate key introductions between public policy leaders and senior (ISC)² staff
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Affairs/Policy Administration, Political Science or related field;
  • 7+ years of professional experience in public policy, government affairs and/or legislative and regulatory affairs
  • Exceptional interpersonal, networking and stakeholder management skills with an emphasis on verbal communication and interfacing with a diverse array of people
  • Strong computer and technical skills including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and web applications
  • Familiarity with global cybersecurity public policy issues, standards, legal and regulatory schemes and profession politics
  • Experience working within a global team (preferably a remote, distributed workforce) and managing consulting resources
  • History of managing complex policy and thought leadership campaigns and successfully passing multiple bills, regulations, or government policy changes, while building coalitions and managing associated politics and media coverage

Physical & Mental

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, may also include overnight and international travel
  • In-person meetings will be required
  • Work normal business hours and extended hours when necessary, to be flexible with various time zones
  • Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting, for prolonged periods
  • Regular use of office equipment such as a computer/laptop and monitor computer screens
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components
