JOB SUMMARY:

Assist in the management of Cone Health’s government relations, legislative activities, policy development, and advocacy with elected officials and government agencies at the local, state, and federal levels, with a focus on communications with internal and external stakeholders, growing Cone Health’s grassroots advocacy network, and strengthening relationships between government officials and Cone Health leaders.

Major job functions include developing and managing a proactive communications program, building a grassroots advocacy network, facilitating meeting between government officials and Cone Health, monitoring relevant policy and regulatory developments, assisting in direct advocacy efforts, supporting the development of public policy priorities, traveling occasionally throughout North Carolina and to Washington, DC, manage personal and constituent issues from government officials, and assisting in voter registration and education. EDUCATION:
REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in government/politics, law, public administration, public policy, English, communications, or related field.

Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in a different area of study combined with a significant interest in government or politics. Such a “significant interest” could be demonstrated through work, whether paid or volunteer, in government, politics, public policy, campaigns, grassroots organization, or related. PREFERRED:
Masters or professional degree in government/politics, law, public administration, public policy, English, communications, or related field.

Such a degree may be in progress at the time of application, provided the expected completion date is within six months of hiring

EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:
1-2 years of relevant work in areas such as grassroots organization, political organizing, campaigns, government, or communications.

An advanced degree described in the “preferred education” section may substitute for required experience along with a significant interest in government, politics, and public policy. Preferably, such “significant interest” may be demonstrated through experience as described in the required education section as an alternative to relevant majors. PREFERRED:
2-4 years of relevant work in areas such as grassroots organization, political organizing, campaigns, or government.

Experience in North Carolina politics or government

Experience in health care industry (to emphasize, preferred but not required)

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Eligible within six months of hiring to register as a lobbyist in North Carolina.
