The College of Built Environments has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director for Marketing and Communications.

The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications (ADOMAC) is responsible for the curation, creation and management of content within the college for CBE’s internal and external audiences. This includes story development and curation, earned media opportunities, social media strategy and development. The ADOMAC also provides project management assistance to the Director of Marketing and Communications as needed.

This role is heavily based in content strategy, creation and drive.


Internal Marketing and Communications
This position will develop and implement communication strategies that increase external awareness of CBE as well as strengthen internal communications within CBE. Communication duties may include:  helping manage communications for CBE, working directly with academic leadership, faculty, and staff to develop messaging and strategies for increasing enrollment, efficiencies, program promotion, alumni engagement, and fundraising through effective storytelling. Create and manage stories and identify storytelling opportunities (internal and external), out of the advancement office; support the important functions of planning, timing, content creation, formatting, editing, audience development and coordination with Publication Services and Mailing Services. CBE Communications vehicles include, but are not limited to: eNewsletters, ongoing electronic correspondence, blogs, social media curation, website content and news flow and other projects assigned by the Director of Marketing and Communications.
• Drive, develop and create meaningful stories in service to the college and college partners that will propel CBE’s mission, vision and values.
• Collaborate with the CBE faculty and staff as well as UW Marketing and Communications staff to ensure consistent, coordinated communication of University, College, and Department messaging.
• Manage, in coordination with Communications Director, Chief Advancement Officer and Web Developer, all website content for the college and advancement. Procure and manage website content to ensure a dynamic, accurate, and timely site for CBE and work as a resource and support to academic departments, labs, centers and programs on their websites.
• Cultivate content marketing strategies targeted at driving traffic, engagement, generating leads, delivering stories, retaining user interest and building brand awareness.
• Develop brand voice to ensure consistency across all content assets.
• Work with internal and external collaborators and creative resources to deliver content assets that are coherent with our brand voice and strategy.
• Track and advance the editorial calendar, and regularly measure and distill progress results to apply data-driven insights to future content strategies.
• Apply SEO, content development, distribution and measurement to effectively tailor content to reach audience personas.
• Manage digital and social content channels including email or newsletter distribution, with the understanding of the best content practices on each channel.
• Assist with integrating content strategy and time-specific brand campaigns to drive campaign goals.
• Create and edit content, mobilizing storytelling opportunities on all channels — owned, earned and paid platforms.
• Establish strategies for media relations, seeking stories for strategic placements in print, broadcast and online channels,
• Build relationships with thought leaders and nurture brand awareness, while gathering knowledge of industry trends.
• Test and implement innovative and relevant methods of measuring content, campaigns and tools, keeping in mind the purpose of the derived results.
• Responsible for the creation, deployment, and tracking of all social media content and on the CBE’s website – primary vehicles are Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Execute and maintain social media marketing plans to drive alumni engagement and drive traffic to the website(s).
• Collaborate with Marketing and Communications Director, CAO and others at CBE to develop collateral for fundraising and/or campaign(s). Stewardship Manage the reformulation and implementation of the Advancement Office’s general stewardship plan.

External Marketing and Communications
• Respond to all stakeholders (internal and external) regarding all matters related to the CBE and UW Advancement.

• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, English, writing, journalism or related field and 4 years of Marketing/communications experience or related field. Equivalent combination of comparable knowledge and skills may substitute for education and/or experience.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience creating and editing digital content for target audiences across all multimedia and social platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, LinkedIn, YouTube and web platforms.
• Experience writing and copy editing, with an eye for details, including writing in different voices and styles, for a variety of target audiences.
• Skilled at graphic design, website design, illustration, with an eye for user experience.
• Familiarity with software including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Lightroom, or Adobe InDesign Adobe After Effects.


• Experience with digital marketing functions including SEO, Content Marketing, Social Media Marketing and/or E-mail Marketing desired but not required.
• Experience with email platforms, including but not limited to mailchimp, constant contact, NGP, Marketo, or others desired but not required.


Cubicle/Open workspace environment which may result in additional or higher levels of noise and visual distractions.
Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.
