Your Role

We are looking for a motivated Corporate Communications / PR Associate to work hand-in-hand with our corporate communications team and global network of PR agencies.

The Associate, Corporate Communications is responsible for assisting in the coordination and implementation of domestic and international PR programs at Ciena. This person has ownership of Ciena’s spokesperson database, executive bio development, media coverage archive, KPI/measurement tracking, and certain corporate collateral/content. This person will also provide support for tradeshow PR and special events, and will have the opportunity to support Ciena’s social media efforts by helping draft content for Ciena’s blog and assist with social media campaigns via Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook.

The role also includes responsibility for the timely distribution of relevant news to key internal contacts, and the external issuance of Ciena news via newswire and NYSE distribution services and Ciena’s website.

Importantly, we are looking for someone who can work with a remote manager and geographically dispersed organization, with the ability to organize multiple simultaneous projects and complete tasks with limited supervision.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Monitor industry press to identify relevant trends and news angles; collaborate with key subject matter experts to draft content (including rapid response/comments, abstracts, speaking and award submissions, and byline articles), achieve approvals and optimize coverage in relevant regions in partnership with local PR agencies
  • Work with global PR team to identify/research press release opportunities; collaborate with key internal contacts to draft/edit content, achieve approvals and execute optimal distribution plans
  • Manage PR measurement process and database
  • Help develop/suggest content for Ciena Insights blog and provide social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook) support as needed
  • Monitor news daily for Ciena and industry media coverage; draft and distribute Daily Email newsletter that highlights relevant Ciena and industry news
  • Help coordinate submission materials to speaking and award opportunities
  • Support content updates to PR-owned pages on ciena.com
  • Provide support for PR aspects of event/tradeshow attendance, globally
  • Manage Ciena press release distribution on newswire and NYSE wire services; post all press releases to Ciena.com
  • Organize and maintain various market and company statistics
  • Monitor and respond to inquiries regarding corporate listings and directories
  • Maintain and update graphics, photography and biography libraries
  • Assemble media briefing and press kit materials

Minimum qualifications:

  • Exceptional writing skills, with a strong attention to detail
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Self-starter/takes initiative
  • Thorough, detail-oriented, resourceful
  • Confident, creative, fast thinker

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications/Journalism/PR or Marketing or relevant experience
  • At least two years’ experience in PR or communications field
  • Demonstrated professional communication skills, both written and oral
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and professional etiquette
  • Written samples may be required
