Reporting to the AVP of Political Affairs, the Associate Director for Advocacy serves as a critical member of MBA’s Legislative & Political Affairs (LPA) group, managing the daily activities related to growing and sustaining the association’s grass roots/grass tops outreach via the Mortgage Action Alliance (MAA), MBA’s free grassroots advocacy network for real estate finance professionals.
The incumbent conceives, plans, manages, and implements initiatives designed to steadily grow and strengthen the Mortgage Action Alliance (MAA). Develops and deploys initiatives related to those goals, including the refinement and execution of a key contact program, the delivery and execution of all MAA “Calls to Action,” and other recruitment/renewal efforts. The incumbent will also manage MAA’s digital and social media content and online presence and utilize third-party services to track, analyze, improve, and promote the effectiveness of MBA’s key contact targeting and all MAA’s campaigns, initiatives, and member engagement efforts (with an emphasis on sustained growth over a five-year horizon). The responsibilities will include managing a new FTE (Grassroots Advocacy Specialist) based on approval.
The ideal candidate should have an undergraduate degree in political science, communications, or public policy with a minimum of three to five years of experience in political advocacy or administration of a grassroots program with demonstrated success. Additionally, professional advocacy experience with exposure to the federal legislature and regulatory process and two to three years’ experience developing and executing social media communication strategy desired.
The candidate should have strong writing skills and an understanding of how to develop compelling content on a variety of social media platforms, including experience deploying digital content via email, web, and social media. Candidate must also be comfortable in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and deliverables that can change within the same week or even the same day. A strong interpersonal skill set with confident sales/customer service capabilities is a must.
Advanced skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) and knowledge of Voter Voice and database management software considered a strong plus.
The candidate must be meticulous/detail-oriented, enthusiastic, well-organized, possess strong time management skills and understand Congress and the political process. Approximately 25% travel is required for this position.
