Associate Director of Federal Government Relations & Health Policy

The National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF) is a dynamic and growing non-profit organization dedicated to research, advocacy, and patient and medical education as we work toward a cure for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis and support those impacted by psoriatic disease. The NPF is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual as our Associate Director of Federal Government Relations & Health Policy, to work in our office in Alexandria, VA. This position will be directing NPF’s legislative and regulatory efforts at the federal level, including developing health policy positions and advocating to congress, federal agencies, and insurers, on behalf of people with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. The Associate Director of Federal Government Relations & Health Policy represents NPF in strategic alliances with federal groups, national coalitions, and other allied stakeholders to develop initiatives to advance the health and wellness of the psoriatic disease community.

Responsibilities include:
  • Identifying and pursuing federal issues of significance to individuals with psoriatic disease;
  • Developing health care insurance, coverage and access policy priorities.
  • Conducting public policy analysis to build and account for NPF’s positions.
  • Preparing submissions to federal agencies and congress on health policy, including legislative and regulatory positions, statements and updates.
  • Building and continue close working relationships with key federal groups, national coalitions, federal coalitions.
  • Cultivating and building relationships with members of congress, and congressional staff.
  • Leading and organizing high-level events including an annual Washington Fly-In, congressional briefings, roundtables, trainings for volunteers, and other opportunities that contribute toward the advancement of NPF’s mission.
  • Collaborating with our Patient Navigation Center and Outreach Department to manage interaction with patients and guide them on health insurance issues such as navigating the insurance system, appealing denials, accessing appropriate care. Additional projects and responsibilities as assigned
Requirements include:
  • 5-7 years or more of relevant work experience, in federal government relations/public policy/regulatory analysis experience in government, non-profit or corporate setting
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • Preference given to those who have active working relationships with congressional staff
  • Working knowledge of the congressional process and federal health agencies
  • Demonstrated federal government relations and policy analysis skills, as well as comfort and familiarity with reading and analyzing legislation and regulation
  • Advanced analytical/writing skills to develop policy positions
  • Excellent communication skills – writing, editing and speaking; comfort or experience with public speaking
  • Strong interpersonal skills in working with alliances, stakeholders, staff and volunteers
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks;  strong project management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to be driven by a passion for policy reform, and to be highly motivated to succeed
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required
