Job DescriptionSpecific Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Senior Director of Community Engagement, Public Affairs, this role will be responsible for developing and implementing communications plans that shape understanding of the value of pharmaceutical innovation in support of Gilead’s product portfolio and pipeline
  • Works closely with Government Affairs, as well as advocacy, corporate and product communications leads within Public Affairs, on external engagement plans to educate and mobilize external audiences around shared priorities
  • Develops compelling message platforms and communications materials to convey Gilead’s position on key issues to media and policymakers
  • Works to ensure balanced public dialogue about industry issues related to innovation and access to medicines
  • Creates campaigns to advocate for and/or inform health policy change
  • Leads issues preparedness and management efforts related to patient access and product pricing/reimbursement
  • Maintains relationships with key health policy reporters and industry organizations
  • Works with advocacy team to develop, strengthen and maintain relationships with patient groups and advocacy organizations based in Washington, DC
  • Manages PR agency partners
  • Conducts all activities with integrity and in line with Gilead’s code of ethics and business conduct policies
  • Manages budgets to target

Knowledge, Experience And Skills

  • Typically requires a BA degree in communications, liberal arts, business or science-oriented field and solid experience in healthcare public relations / public affairs experience
  • In-depth understanding of healthcare policy and pharmaceutical/biotech industry issues
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in media relations and issues management
  • Ability to interact with senior management and academic experts with confidence and ease
  • Ability to work cross-functionally to drive alignment against business and communications objectives
  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulations and principles specific to communications for a publicly-traded biopharmaceutical company
  • Knowledge of Gilead’s therapeutic areas of focus
  • Experience managing multiple projects (timelines, budgets, priorities) simultaneously with a focus on delivering results
  • Ability to deliver formal presentations to external and internal audiences of a variety of sizes
