SIFMA is looking for an Associate, Federal Government Affairs. As a member of the broader Advocacy department, this position will assist with delivering on the policy objectives set forth by the SIFMA Board of Directors, monitor legislative and regulatory proposals in assigned issue areas and prepare written communication for internal and external SIFMA stakeholders.




  • Identify, monitor, analyze and write summary reports on public policy proposals, congressional hearings, regulatory meetings, and other relevant events;
  • Work with SIFMA staff and SIFMA member firm government relations representatives to develop SIFMA positions on key issue areas;
  • Contribute to and develop Advocacy communications for senior staff internally and at member firms, including but not limited to newsletters, legislative updates, after action plans, and various tracking tools;
  • Coordinate with SIFMA’s Communications department to develop educational materials;
  • Liaise with senior advocacy staff and issue specific staff advisors to write testimony and other written communications to policymakers on key issue areas;
  • Participate in political engagement at the guidance and direction of senior advocacy staff;
  • Participate in meetings with federally elected officials and their staff at the direction of senior advocacy staff.




  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • Knowledge of (and preferably a minimum of 2 years’ experience in) regulation, capital markets, or other public policy areas;
  • Analytical skills necessary to understand the legal and regulatory issues affecting the industry as well as to summarize complex documents or presentations;
  • An interest in regulatory and other public policy issues, such as U.S. capital markets, privacy, municipal and housing finance, etc.;
  • Sharp attention to detail, organization, and an ability to multi-task;
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills suitable for business and advocacy purposes;
  • An ability to anticipate needs and work proactively to support Advocacy team members and staff advisors;
  • An ability to proactively acquire knowledge and understanding of important financial concepts, policy issues, and stakeholders;
  • Exceptional research, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word skills;
  • A flexible work schedule is important, and the candidate may be required to occasionally work beyond regular close-of-business hours if necessary.


SIFMA is currently conducting virtual interviews. Although the SIFMA offices are currently open, the individual hired may start remote and will transition to work in the office at a future date.
