Overview:

CLF is seeking an Associate Vice President (VP) of Environmental Justice to contribute to our mission of fostering a healthy and thriving New England for all. The Environmental Justice program collaborates with communities, civic leaders, advocacy groups, and the private sector to address pressing challenges, from climate change to transportation justice and the waste crisis.

Opportunity:

This role offers a chance to work closely with the VP of Environmental Justice, shaping and executing programmatic and legal strategies aligned with CLF’s Strategic Plan. The preferred location is Boston, MA, but consideration will be given to CLF’s other offices (Concord, NH; Montpelier, VT; New Haven, CT; Portland, ME; Providence, RI) with some remote work options within New England.

Responsibilities:

Refining Vision and Strategy:

  • Collaborate with the VP, Environmental Justice to refine the vision and strategy for CLF’s environmental justice program, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.

Operational Management:

  • Assist in managing day-to-day operations, including assigning tasks, providing guidance, and problem-solving.
  • Take the lead on major cases/initiatives as assigned, serving as a senior member of the program team.

Team Engagement:

  • Implement effective and inclusive management practices to support team members and foster a healthy workplace culture.
  • Contribute to hiring, supervising, mentoring, and coaching team members.

Legal Representation:

  • Represent CLF in litigation and administrative proceedings as needed.

Community Partnerships:

  • Build partnerships with communities most impacted by the program’s focus areas.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work with development, finance, and communications teams on fundraising, budget management, and marketing efforts.
  • Represent CLF before various audiences, including partner communities, public officials, and supporters.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 8 years of legal experience, including litigation.
  • Substantial experience in project and people management.
  • Law degree and active bar membership (preferably in a New England state).
  • Experience in environmental justice, particularly in New England.
  • Success in navigating complex policy initiatives.
  • Collaborative leadership style with proven interdisciplinary team management.
  • Skills in networking, fundraising, financial management, and communications.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience with zero waste and related issues is a plus.

About CLF:

Compensation:

CLF offers a competitive salary ($110,000 – $135,000 in Boston), comprehensive benefits, and an inclusive work environment. Salary depends on experience and base location. CLF prioritizes work-life balance and provides opportunities for professional development.
