Position Description

The Center for Rural Affairs is hiring a full time Policy Associate. The Policy Associate will report to the Policy Director and will work to identify policy gaps, conduct research on potential policy solutions, and promote policy priorities related to clean energy siting and development.

Position Details

This is a full-time non-exempt position. Preferred location is our Lyons, Nebraska office. An arrangement to work from a different existing Center office, a home office, or a newly established remote office may be considered. This position has a salary range of $38,000-$47,000, commensurate with experience, with a top-notch benefit package that has a cash value ranging from $10,000 to $29,500, depending on family status and tenure with the Center. For the right candidate with the desired experience and skill level, a Senior Associate position could  be offered with a salary range up to $50,000.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct research to identify policy gaps and potential policy solutions; Stay current on media and news related to policy work.
  • Engage with constituents and other stakeholders to gather input and feedback that inform policy priorities.
  • Work alongside supporters to advance policy campaigns.
  • Engage with elected officials and their staff to educate and promote policy priorities with work alongside supporters to advance policy campaigns.
  • Author reports, white papers, blogs, opinion pieces, and action alerts regarding policy work.
  • Build and maintain relationships with partner organizations and other key stakeholders.
  • Contribute to work plan development and apply for grants to support policy work.
  • Track and analyze developments in policy and inform stakeholders of opportunities to engage in the development process.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with clean energy siting and development.
  • Experience living or working in rural communities.
  • Strong understanding of advocacy and the policy making process.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Can work effectively with diverse groups of individuals and values differences of race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ability, and social-economic circumstances.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills; excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
