Position Description

The CPC Center is seeking an experienced, strategic, and motivated candidate to lead its climate policy work, with a title commensurate with the successful candidate’s level of experience. The Climate Policy Associate/Senior Associate/Manager and will coordinate the Center’s work in our new Climate Program.

Recognizing the need for transformative solutions that center frontline communities, create good green union careers, achieve climate justice and address environmental racism, our Climate Program will:

  • Provide public education and analysis about a science- and justice-based climate agenda

  • Identify and develop public education and policy resources

  • Convene frontline communities and social justice organizations in policy dialogue and public events

Duties and Responsibilities:

Legislative and Policy Analysis: The Climate Policy Associate/Senior Associate/Manager will conceptualize and draft policy analyses and proposals related to climate policy, infrastructure and agriculture. The Climate Policy Associate/Senior Associate/Manager will conduct racial and economic equity analyses of pending climate policy-related legislation. They will publish public education materials, including timely, accessible analysis and explainer documents.

Stakeholder Engagement: The Climate Policy Associate/Senior Associate/Manager will help expand and engage external stakeholders, networks, and coalitions with which the Center works. The Associate/Senior Associate/Manager will focus on bringing together diverse stakeholders including environmental advocates, labor unions, racial justice, and economic justice organizations around a climate agenda rooted in science, justice, and equity. This will include organizing meetings, public education briefings, and other convenings.

Other duties as assigned.

Key Relationships

This position will report to the Policy Director and interact closely with the Policy, Legislative Affairs and Communications Teams.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following qualifications:

  • Five to ten years of experience in policymaking, government affairs, or related fields.

  • Prior nonprofit and/or advocacy experience preferred.

  • A bachelor’s degree is required. A master’s degree or other advanced degree is

    preferred.

  • Have substantive experience in climate, environmental justice, racial equity and related

    subjects.

  • Be able to set priorities while working in a dynamic, fast-paced, deadline-oriented

    environment and balance competing demands.

  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrate capacity in writing and editing influential pieces (op-eds, memos) to frame

    and advance key policy priorities on climate and environmental justice.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partners and stakeholders.

  • Commitment to centering anti-racism and equity in work, to fostering a culturally

    competent workplace and to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field.

  • Track record of delivering superior results while maintaining a positive attitude working

    with colleagues in a collaborative, team-based environment, and with external partners.

  • Self-starter with strong program design and project management skills.

  • Passion for the mission of the Congressional Progressive Caucus Center and social

    movements for justice, equity, and fairness

  • Responsiveness to feedback

Salary

$65,000 to $88,000, depending on experience.

The Climate Policy Associate/Senior Associate/Manager will also receive excellent benefits including generous vacation, paid holidays, 401(k) match, and paid health insurance. This position is within a union-represented bargaining unit, and specific terms and conditions of employment may be subject to a collective bargaining agreement.

FLSA Classification: Exempt.

Duration of Employment: This is a term-limited position (maximum duration of two years).

Location

This position is remote until the CPC Center’s office is able to reopen. At that time, this position will be based in our Washington, DC office.
