Background:
Search for Common Ground (Search) is a world-wide non-profit organization with the mission to transform the way the world deals with conflict, away from adversarial approaches towards collaborative solutions. Search has been working in Central and East Africa since 1995, with programming in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Burundi, Rwanda, the Central African Republic (CAR), Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya and Tanzania.
Assignment:
Search for Common Ground (Search) is looking for a talented communications consultant to support the development of key communication products (print and social media) highlighting key results and inspiring stories from its projects in Central and East Africa.
Working in collaboration with Search’s Central and East Africa regional team, as well as with Search’s communication focal points across the region, the consultant will be responsible for creating original text and social media content. Our ideal candidate has exceptional oral and written communication skills, ideally in both English and French, with Arabic as an asset, and is able to develop engaging content for an international audience.
The consultant will work on an open contract for punctual assignments over an initial period of one year renewable.
Key Responsibilities

- Provide effective communication and heightened visibility for Search’s work at the country, regional and international levels.
- Lead communication product drafting, proofreading, and editing for high quality, timely and targeted communications materials (success stories, capacity statements, newsletters, media campaign, blog posts, web updates) to best showcase the organization’s results.
- Provide engaging content in text and image for Search’s social media accounts;
- Assist in the development of regional and global journalist and media contacts lists, draft mass press releases and media advisories, and follow up with press contacts.
Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication or relevant field;
- Professional experience of at least five (5) years in communications;
- Experience writing for the web, print and social media;
- Experience editing communications content for INGOs;
- Familiarity with basic photo editing and graphic design software;
- Excellent verbal and editorial communication English; fluency in French is an advantage.
- Open and constructive collaboration with colleagues, team spirit;
- Flexibility, ability to adapt to changing circumstances
