The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) seeks a motivated and creative writer to work collaboratively with the Communications staff on the development, reporting, writing, repurposing, and editing of a broad range of content relating to the housing industry for the NAHB website, its blog, and other communications channels. The overall goal is to help showcase the value of NAHB to our members and enhance communications about NAHB’s positive impact within the home building and remodeling industries.


Candidates for this position must have excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentations, press releases, reports, copywriting, editing, and a keen familiarity with writing for the web. The ability to work with diverse professionals from various fields – including legislative, legal, technical, and economic – to understand highly complex issues and plan media strategies to communicate NAHB’s policies is essential. Qualified candidates will also be able to work in a fast-paced environment with excellent attention to detail and follow-through. Proficiency with email management programs and web content management tools, including a basic knowledge of photo editing software, is required.

This position requires a minimum of two years of in-depth experience on website content creation and optimization; experience writing for traditional, online, and social media channels; and a background in public relations/issues advocacy in the housing and/or real estate fields. Knowledge of web communications is required. A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field, or equivalent in education and experience, is required.

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) helps its members build communities. Each year, NAHB’s members construct about 80% of the new homes built in the United States, both single-family and multifamily. A federation of more than 800 state and local associations, NAHB represents more than 140,000 members. About one-third are home builders and remodelers. Other members work in closely related specialties, such as sales and marketing, housing finance, and manufacturing and supplying building materials.
