The Communications Manager reports to the Director of Communications and supports various facets of SEIA’s organization. The role includes media relations, social media and member communications and it helps implement organization-wide advocacy campaigns.

SEIA relies on the Communications & Public Affairs team to strengthen our solar message, expand our audiences and provide high-quality communications outcomes for our members. The Public Affairs Manager will support SEIA’s current initiatives and expand SEIA’s capabilities.

This work will be in support of SEIA’s vision and its Solar+ Decade goal of having solar account for 20% of all U.S. electricity generation by 2030. Responsibilities include:

  • Curating and distributing SEIA’s daily Solar in the News digest to staff, members, consultants and Board of Directors.

  • Drafting and distributing SEIA’s Weekly Array newsletter and managing the editing process with the Communications team.

  • Assisting the Director of Communications and Senior Manager of Communications with media pitching, fulfilling routine requests, drafting backgrounders and coordination for all media-related events and in-house, on-camera appearances.

  • Helping execute on state communications campaigns, including drafting statements, ensuring maximum exposure of state advocacy and supporting state social media efforts.

  • Assisting the Director of Communications in drafting and distributing press releases.

  • Writing and editing blog entries for various SEIA campaigns and initiatives.

  • Working with the Director of Communications and digital media team to develop graphics and video content that supports SEIA’s announcements, campaigns, and profile building activities.

  • Running SEIA’s Instagram, as well as providing support for developing content on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

  • Supporting implementation and rollout of SolarAPP+ – an automated permitting program under development at the Department of Energy.

  • Assisting the Director of Communications with drafting messaging for a variety of external communications.

  • Assisting the Director of Communications with PR Committee meetings, events, and workshops.



  • 1-3 years’ experience working in advocacy communications.

  • Proven ability to communicate to a variety of audiences through social media, web content, earned media, blogs, etc.

  • Working knowledge of the renewable energy industry and the policymaking process.

  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Working knowledge of the Adobe Suite — including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign — and ability to quickly learn other design platforms. Knowledge of video editing programs like After Effects, Premier Pro, and Final Cut, is desired.

  • Experience working in MS Word, MS Excel, and event management platforms as well as the ability to quickly learn other programs and platforms.

  • Time management skills and the ability to multitask and work under time pressure in a fast-paced environment.
