POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications Manager for Firelight Media and Firelight Films, reporting to the Communications Director, will spearhead initiatives, author and design content, and manage partnerships that cultivate and activate audiences through Firelight’s digital platforms. The Communications Manager will develop Firelight’s audience engagement strategies across both organizations, including managing social media accounts and email marketing campaigns, maintaining its websites, and spearheading digital activations. A primary measure of success in this role is the ability to maintain audience engagement with Firelight Media and Firelight Films through individual campaigns and projects – especially those related to artist programs and film productions – and to catalyze audiences into supporters of the Firelight brand and consumers of its content.

The Communications Manager is a full time position, based in New York, that requires close collaboration with teams in artist programs, production, and development on a comprehensive digital marketing, education, and engagement strategy.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Development and management of Firelight’s communications vehicles, including its websites, newsletters, and social media accounts (including but not limited to WordPress, Squarespace, YouTube, Vimeo, MailChimp, Medium, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Spotify).

  • Development and management of an integrated content calendar and project management system for Firelight Media and Firelight Films (e.g. AirTable and Buffer).

  • Managing posts and engaging followers through an array of social media accounts across multiple platforms, with particular attention to developing strategy for and creation of short film and video content.

  • Author original content that creates a connection between past, current, and future Firelight Media and Firelight Films projects in support of our organizational goal of developing a cohesive brand that has recognition with its target audiences.

  • Develop a deep knowledge of the entire content portfolio and the habits of key audiences, and actively seek opportunities to repurpose and align content into current events and initiatives.

  • Manage the websites of Firelight Media and Firelight Films, and individual film websites.

  • Support digital content creation, e.g. designing promotional graphics and templates.

  • Build and maintain relationships on behalf of Firelight Media and Firelight Films with selected organizations for marketing and promotional purposes.

  • Manage a marketing budget to increase film and brand visibility, including securing ad buys that aid in the goal of galvanizing Firelight’s audiences while increasing awareness of the brand.

  • Stay abreast of trends and changes within the digital media landscape as well as current events that impact our content areas and target audiences.

  • Use data-driven techniques to monitor, optimize, and report on activity and performance of each platform, actively making suggestions for adjustments and testing of campaigns, ad sets, and activations.

  • Work closely with project-specific consultants and vendors.

  • Develop content with the purpose of driving revenue for Firelight (Blu-ray/DVD sales and film streaming on third-party sites).

  • Work closely with staff and consultants responsible for Firelight’s overall communications and social media strategies.

KEY BENCHMARKS

  • Increase brand awareness and audience engagement on each of Firelight’s digital platforms.

  • Drive consistent growth in support of Firelight content and platforms.

  • Develop strategies to use social content to convert supporters of individual platforms into supporters of the overarching Firelight brand and as supporters of new projects.

  • Generate revenue from films in the Firelight Films catalog.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS

  • Flexibility, and ability to pivot and reassess priorities within a growing organization

  • Passion for the nonfiction content and core audiences served by Firelight

  • 4-6 years experience working in social media or publicity at a media organization

  • Proven success in optimizing social media campaigns to drive efficient engagement

  • Sound knowledge of Google Analytics, Twitter Analytics, Facebook Ads/Business Manager, and YouTube Studio (previous knowledge of data reporting and analysis is useful)

  • Proven success and growth experimenting with and exploring new platforms to increase a network, organization, or film’s social media reach

  • Adept at packaging content with share text and headlines for different platforms

  • Enthusiasm for learning new social platforms and interpreting data

  • Graphic design experience and short video production is a plus

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Firelight offers a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
