Jordan Winery, an iconic producer of French-inspired wines in Sonoma County, is seeking a Communications Manager to handle public relations and social media for the company. In this role, you will develop communication strategies to engage customers, increase brand trust, and cultivate and maintain positive relationships with journalists, as well as influential followers and customers on social media. You’ll also lead community relations involving our charitable foundation and social responsibility initiatives. Due to the complexity of social media conversations in today’s world, you must create tactics and responses to reduce or eliminate the unfavorable publicity. You will primarily conduct projects in-house, but we occasionally collaborate with outside public relations firms on large-scale media campaigns. PUBLIC RELATIONS RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop public relations strategies with Director of Marketing for current and existing products, events and promotions
  • Create informative and interesting press releases, press kits and related materials
  • Develop and actively manage relationships with journalists, bloggers and editorial decision makers to increase earned media placements
  • Identify and create public relations and other earned media opportunities
  • Create and maintain an annual public relations activity calendars
  • Pitch journalists on food, wine, travel, business and philanthropy story angles
  • Serve as the primary media relations contact for the company, fielding all incoming requests for samples, interviews and visits
  • Schedule interviews with spokespersons and handle interview prep
  • Draft and distribute all company press releases
  • Create official company responses for typical business situations, which will be used by other departments
  • Coordinate annual new release press sampling and holiday gift campaigns
  • Maintain and update media contacts database, ensuring contacts are accurate and tagged by topic
  • Coordinate logistics for media visits to property, including interviews, gifts, meet-and-greets, private tours and photos
  • Plan and host media groups with Director of Marketing and/or PR consultants
  • Work with Marketing Director to hone public speaking and media relations messaging skills to become a key spokesperson for the winery
  • Collaborate with Sales department and spokespersons when market visits are planned so that travel can be maximized to also include media interviews
  • Invite media to Jordan events (at the winery and across the country)
  • Monitor all media mentions for content leverage or crisis situations; send responses when needed
  • Create and distribute monthly and quarterly press coverage reports
  • Work with Director of the John Jordan Foundation to learn about new programs and determine press and social media opportunities
  • Maintain relationship with product placement agency and handle product placement orders, reports and announcements
  • Coordinate wine competition shipments along with necessary paperwork
  • Handle submissions for all awards that serve as public relations opportunities
  • Ensure annual fee processing and paperwork is completed for key trade associations
  • Serve as a lead for all trade association event programs and MarCom opportunities
  • Organize promotional events, press conferences, tours, visits, and exhibitions
  • Create and manage PR budgets, deadlines, objectives, and schedules

SOCIAL MEDIA RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Respond to questions and comments across all social media channels
  • Grow the winery’s social following through interaction, quality and relatability of content and other proven tactics; constantly identify new and innovative ideas to build audience and engagement
  • Develop monthly and annual social plan with Director of Marketing and Creative Marketing Manager
  • Develop and manage the social marketing calendar and collaborate with cross functional teams to creatively align strategy and assets
  • Create, curate and manage all published content and comments using social media management platform
  • Follow and adapt to constantly changing best practices on best times to share content
  • Schedule and shoot regular live social broadcasts, as well as Reels and Stories
  • Shoot iPhone photos and videos
  • Work with Creative Marketing Manager to create HD video clips and video production concept ideas
  • Share a proven mix of creative content posts specific to each channel
  • Conduct social listening projects for identifying trends, behavior, like-minded brands, influencers and collaborators
  • Develop relationships with influencers
  • Work with the marketing team to develop and test influencer partnership strategy
  • Maintain online events calendars, including Facebook, and promote regional events
  • Engage with members on VIP private Facebook group
  • Serve as the primary social media photographer for the company events and day-to-day behind the scenes to post to social channels
  • Monitor and respond to online reviews
  • Maintain brand identity across social platforms and Google My Business
  • Create and distribute monthly social media report
  • Coordinate regular social media contests and fulfill all prize shipments
  • Stay abreast of trends in social search, social media and advertising to remain highly effective
  • Work with marketing team to establish best practices, processes and guidelines for social media and communications

ADVERTISING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the primary print and digital advertising contact for wine, food and travel publications, as well as other traditional media outlets
  • Handle label insertion requests with wine publications
  • Maintain an annual traditional advertising budget
  • Maintain a monthly social media advertising calendar plan and budget for both boosts and targeted ads
  • Stay abreast of the latest advertising tools and proven tactics available on social media platforms
  • Plan and execute effective advertising, creative and target audiences on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and YouTube, working with Creative Marketing Manager on creative and Digital Marketing Consultant on ad groups/optimization
  • Work with Brand Manager and Digital Marketing Consultant on creation and execution of all Google Ads (to align with social advertisements)

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Has a high attention to detail and a proven track record of minimal post typos/mistakes
  • Demonstrates creativity and documented immersion in social media
  • Experience sourcing and managing content development and publishing
  • Displays in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios
  • Has a proven track record with social advertising, especially Facebook Ad Manager ads and boosts
  • Has solid technical skills and can pick up new tools quickly
  • Maintains a working knowledge of principles of SEO including keyword research and Google Analytics. Highly knowledgeable in the principles of “Search and Social.”
  • Possesses great ability to identify potential negative or crisis situation and apply conflict resolution principles to mitigate issues
  • Have a full understanding of media needs and media relationships
  • Is proactive, reliable, responsible and accurate
  • Practices exceptional time management skills and is a multi-tasker
  • Has a strong work ethic and sense of urgency
  • Has a desire for continuous improvement
  • Knowledge of video shooting on iPhone
  • Has a passion for wine and food
  • Available to work nights or weekends when needed

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, business, or related field

3-5 years of experience in social media marketing and public relations
