The PF Independent Franchisee Council (PFIFC) is an independent association of Planet Fitness franchisees with offices located in Atlanta, Georgia. Due to growth of the organization, the PFIFC is seeking a driven, creative and forward-thinking person to join our team. The full-time Communications Manager will provide support to the Executive Director and Board to execute the organization’s communication strategies. The role will direct all communication activities of the council with both internal (members) and external audiences and serve as editor in chief of the quarterly print publication.

 

As a member of the PFIFC team, you will interact daily with energetic and dynamic business owners. The ideal candidate should possess an entrepreneurial spirit, be passionate about learning, and focused on helping our members thrive. The Communications Manager must possess excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively relay crucial information to both internal and external stakeholders. Candidates should be comfortable working in a small, professional office environment in Atlanta, Georgia.

 

Job Duties include

  • Membership Communications and Publications (Fifty percent of time anticipated for these duties)
    • Plan and manage projects that use written and visual storytelling to support the council’s mission
    • Serve as the editor-in-chief of quarterly print publications, including creating editorial calendar and story budgets, writing, sourcing, and editing content, maintaining deadlines, and supervising printing and distribution
    • Ghostwrite for council leadership
    • Generate monthly e-newsletter
    • Evaluate member satisfaction through use of surveys
    • Review and edit all council communications
    • Assist with annual membership recruitment and retention activities

 

  • Management (Twenty percent of time anticipated for these duties)
    • Oversee Communications Coordinator duties related to membership communications and publications, web presence and social media engagement
    • Manage relationship with third-party designer
    • Manage relationship with printer/mail house

 

  • Meetings and Annual Convention (Fifteen percent of time anticipated for these duties)
    • Survey membership and assist Meetings Manager in developing agenda and educational materials
    • Create and edit content for meetings/sessions
    • Oversee audio visual production
    • Negotiate contracts with third parties
    • Plan and execute event promotional campaigns

 

  • Committee Liaison (Ten percent of time anticipated for these duties)
    • For select committees:
      • Prepare agendas with committee chair
      • Develop meeting materials
      • Take minutes and track action items
    • Develop communication plans for committee projects as needed

 

  • Public Relations (Five percent of time anticipated for these duties)
    • Manage the strategic development and supervise maintenance of the council’s website, including content and functionality
    • Manage all other PR activities of the council

  • Ability to generate persuasive writing and editorial content.

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Strong work ethic and have a focus on continuous improvement.

Additional requirements

  • Writing and editorial experience required.
  • Experience working with non-profit senior staff, Board and Committee members, as well as membership at-large preferred.
  • Experience working in a membership association and event promotion preferred.
  • Knowledge of franchise and/or fitness industry preferred.
  • Ability to work in a small, socially distanced office environment.
  • Availability for limited travel (less than 10%).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field.
  • Five years of related experience.
