ILSI Communications Manager

We are looking for a smart, energetic person with strong communication skills to join our team. This position will be responsible for advancing the organization’s mission by collaboratively developing, implementing, and supporting an integrated strategic communications plan to enhance ILSI’s brand identity, broaden awareness of ILSI’s programs and strategic priorities, and increase the visibility of ILSI’s positive contributions to science.

Primary Duties:
Implement communications best practices and policies while collaboratively providing mentoring and training support across ILSI Entities across the globe.
Coordinate with and support ILSI’s Executive Director, leadership, and entities to align brand strategies and apply consistency across all information platforms (printed and electronic) to ensure that all communications to external audiences are consistent in message and appearance.
Serve as ILSI’s point of contact for media inquiries and develop a monitoring system to capture and assess media coverage about ILSI.
Develop and implement an effective and engaging social media strategy and manage the ILSI website as ILSI’s primary communications platform and print and electronic collateral such as newsletters and annual reports.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities: Candidates should have exceptional writing skills, strong communication experience, and enjoy working collaboratively. They should also have the ability to synthesize and communicate scientific material and information verbally and in writing to a diverse audience and demonstrate communication expertise in all mediums—oral, written, web-based, and social media. Outstanding editing, design, and multimedia skills are essential, including the ability to present concepts visually and verbally. Qualified candidates should possess project management skills, including an ability to meet multiple deadlines for simultaneous projects by maintaining a high level of organization.

Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, basic HTML and relevant social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube), and communications software and have experience managing websites, including design, operations, and analytics is required.

Education and Experience: A degree or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field and a minimum of 5 years of direct communications experience working with nonprofit or international organizations is highly preferred. The ideal candidate will also be knowledgeable or experienced in a scientific discipline such as nutrition, food science, or life sciences.

Location: ILSI is headquartered in Washington, DC, with employees temporarily working remotely. Future in-office operations may resume based on government and health authorities’ recommendations.
