Meta is looking for a Communications Manager, Social Impact to join the Social Impact communications team. The team’s mission is to support Meta’s work that enables our community to make an impact on causes they care about through proactive communications around product announcements and external speaking opportunities. In this role, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to create and support proactive communications plans for Meta’s social impact work. The person will support communications for product areas that allow our community to make an impact on key social issues, such as health, climate, equity and civic and will include products like our charitable giving, crisis response and climate tools. They will be responsible for drafting communications and campaign plans, outreach to reporters, writing narratives and messaging, supporting executive communication and working with key partners and creators to showcase their impact. A strategic, creative and resourceful communicator, able to manage multiple high-level projects simultaneously will do well in this position. Must be a self-starter who can work well in a cross-functional team environment.
Communications Manager, Social Impact Responsibilities
  • Media relations: Strengthen existing and cultivate new relationships with tech and consumer print and online media, broadcast outlets, bloggers and influencers.
  • Build awareness of Meta’s social impact work in mainstream consumer press outlets.
  • Draft and execute communications strategies for upcoming proactive moments.
  • Navigate and respond nimbly and strategically to media inbound inquiries related to Meta’s Social Impact work to help shape stories and headlines.
  • Work closely with product and cross-functional teams to understand features, map out timelines and develop and execute communications strategies to break through the noise.
  • Provide surge support for company priority moments or other major top news cycles.
  • Identify, create and execute strategies to connect executives, community leaders, partners across paid, earned and owned opportunities.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with various teams and external agencies to drive proactive announcements and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Help organize press briefings, media sessions and events.
  • Prepare briefing materials and manage spokespeople.
  • Some travel might be required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, or similar field
  • 7+ years of experience at a PR agency or in-house communications
  • Existing relationships and experience dealing with reporters
  • Experience working with or in support of diverse communities
  • Project management experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience at a PR agency or in-house communications experience
  • Product communications experience or social impact communications experience
  • Experience working with international media and events
