The incumbent provides communications services in a business unit or corporate environment in support of a vice president, department director(s), global business process owner(s) and/or strategic initiative(s)/project(s).  The incumbent understands the business so they can write and articulate it to the customers and develops and implements communication strategies in direct response to those needs.

Decisions made by this position are diverse with higher risk issues. Challenges include exceeding expectations in delivering results, considering alternative courses of actions and making timely decisions. The incumbent provides mentoring and direction to less experienced communications representatives.

The position contributes to communications vehicles and manages several non-repeating projects, both internally and externally, through completion. Partnerships with the media team for external communications is critical.

Typical internal customers include the vice president and directors, as well as communicators throughout the enterprise. The position manages the completion of its own work assignments. Work generally follows established procedures and patterns with review in progress and at completion. Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, etc.

Basic Qualifications:

  • This position requires a college or university degree
  • In addition, 5 to 7 years of job-related experience is required, preferably with business unit and corporate communications experience
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality, strong writing skills and experience, and excellent interpersonal skills are required to develop a cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside of the department
  • Experience in executive communication support on hosting meetings and condensing down complex messages
  • Experience in understanding and tailoring messages for variety of audiences
  • Experience developing and implementing an internal communications strategy
  • Experience consulting on communication delivery with a variety of audience types
  • A strong copywriting background is needed to inform, evoke emotion or drive action on a variety of topics
  • Strong project management skills with ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet established deadline

Thought leadership is essential when considering the alignment necessary for this senior communications rep position. In addition, eight-ten years of job-related experience are typically required, preferably within a business unit and corporate communications experience. Past experience with communicating to multiple executives for large events and navigating complex messages down to succinct and strategic messages is recommended. The ability to maintain confidentiality, strong writing skills and strategic communication implementation, and excellent interpersonal skills are required to develop a cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside of the department.
