Communities Program Director
ORGANIZATION & PROGRAM BACKGROUND
ecoAmerica is a 501(c)(3) non-profit works with institutional partners to build a critical mass of institutional leadership, public support, political will and collective action for climate solutions in the United States. We develop and manage sector-based programs for the health, faith and community sectors, empowering networks of trusted leaders and institutions to lead by example and engage stakeholders on climate action. The Communities Program Director leads ecoAmerica’s work to engage and activate America’s communities (cities, counties, states and community-based national organizations) in climate action, advocacy and collective action. The Communities Program Director reports to the Executive Director and works collaboratively with other staff members to cultivate, activate and support leaders and partners in an efficient and effective manner. S/he will be a subject matter expert, having in-depth knowledge and strong experience in local communities, and significant knowledge and experience in the climate field. The incumbent must have a proven record of success in program management and in collaborating with C-level executives.
Build public support and political will for climate solutions in America at the local community level by activating existing and new national partners and leaders in P2PC programmatic activities.
- Align P2PC with eA priorities and synergy by collaborating internally and externally to tailor and implement program strategy, plans, and partner plans.
- Identify, enroll and activate new program partners by securing formal programmatic partnerships.
- Nurture and manage program partners, delivering on agreements and inspiring further leadership and deeper engagement of partner members/constituents.
- Engage institutional and thought leaders from national governmental and community-centric NGOs in the sector Leadership Circle Executive Committee that guides and supports our communities work.
- Nurture the P2PC Leadership Circle Executive Committee (LCEC) with quarterly meetings and regular communications to engage and solicit input.
- Identify, enroll and activate an expanded Leadership Circle to engage local, state, and regional leaders and empower them in local climate action and advocacy.
- Represent program externally through presentations at events and in collaborative efforts in the sector for climate action and advocacy.
Enhance existing and create and promote new state of the art resources to inspire and empower effective climate action and advocacy at the local, regional, and national levels.
- Develop, implement and promote program resources (e.g., guides, reports, fact sheets) and engage others in endorsement, customization and distribution of resources through partners, ambassadors and leadership circle members.
- Plan, coordinate, host, and promote monthly episodes of the webcast series, Let’s Talk Climate in collaboration with events, marketing and management teams.
- Produce regular blog posts (as author and sourcing from partners), and oversee, deliver and engage with program communications (social media, newsletters, website content, online community content and events) in collaboration with the management and marketing teams.
- Support, enhance, promote, and deliver the Path to Positive Ambassadors Training Program directly and through partners, including customizing the training for and in collaboration with partners.
- In conjunction with the management and marketing teams help conduct, document and promote (where feasible) sector specific research to understand the dynamics and/or stakeholders to build sector knowledge and form strategies and plans.
General organizational responsibilities
- Participate as a professional and positive member of the organization by contributing to activities that support ecoAmerica’s overall mission and success.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of organizational and cross sector strategies, plans and activities including sector forums, national summits, and campaigns in collaboration with executive management, network, events, and marketing teams.
- Analyze and report on program progress and impact, incorporate learnings into program and partner strategies and objectives and key results.
- Participate in sector-specific fundraising efforts in collaboration with the Development team.
- Participate in staff and other organizational meetings to review progress and deliverables, share knowledge, and to collaborate on ecoAmerica activities.
- Work in cooperation with the Executive Director and Chief Administrative Officer to establish and manage sector program budgets and forecasts.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILL REQUIRED
- College degree required; advanced degree preferred and minimally 7+ years related work experience.
- Experience building and managing professional relationships, “leading from behind” and interacting with high-level leaders from private, public, and NGO organizations.
- Current knowledge and understanding of local community dynamics, community-based organizations, and local, state and national political dynamics, including from a climate and sustainability perspective.
- Success experience in leading the building and implementation of collective impact or advocacy campaigns for climate change or related issues.
- Ability to blend strategic thinking with creation and management of real tactics and deliverable implementation, ability to roll up sleeves.
- Excellent verbal, written and visual communications and presentation skills.
- Proficient skills across multiple platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, social media, and content management systems (or willingness to learn).
- Commitment to climate and justice solutions and ecoAmerica’s mission.
This position is largely sedentary in nature however one must possess the ability to speak, hear, and write as well as the ability to use a computer and related software programs, and lift up to 20 lbs. Local and/or national travel periodically required.
