The Community Relations Manager position is designed to focus on the organization’s local communities in a high-level customer service role assisting a core group of IMA volunteer local boards to ensure they are successful in organizing and delivering continued education training and networking events to their local community.  The successful candidate will be able to effectively and proactively support United States based chapters and councils, and student chapters in specific US regions to ensure volunteers experience top-level customer service support.


  • Liaison between the local chapters, councils and staff operational groups such as, Community Relations, Marketing, Diversity, and Governance teams to ensure organization chapters are succeeding and growing
  • Training, educating, and advising volunteers on their roles and responsibilities
  • Ensuring chapters and councils have planned annual calendar for events and activities and help identify speakers
  • Assist chapters and councils with planning, marketing, and executing all events
  • Provide website support to chapters and councils
  • Ensure volunteers are educated on organization policies and guidelines and are compliant with all including annual compliance form submissions
  • Provide support to plan, coordinate and execute successful virtual and in-person events
  • Understand organization strategic goals and value proposition and serve as a “Chief Reminding Officer” who consistently communicates to volunteers and members in local chapters and councils
  • Manage CPE certificates for training events
  • Help chapters and councils with volunteer board leader succession planning to continue to build the organization’s leadership pipeline.
  • Support the development of new chapters
  • Manage dissolving chapters and/or councils that are unable to continue recruiting new volunteer leaders to run

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in customer service with excellent communication and writing skills
  • Experience working in non-profit with chapters or local volunteer member groups
  • Ability to accommodate flexible working hours when there are time zone differences
  • Ability to travel
  • Ability to multi-task and manage projects and focus on details
  • Ability to work cross-functionality with internal teams collaboratively
  • Competent with Microsoft Excel, Word, Mail Merge and Outlook
  • Experience working with customer database
  • Comfortable speaking in public
