The Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) and Stakeholder Engagement organization is seeking a motivated, knowledgeable, and resilient individual to lead and manage our Corporate Social Responsibility and Community Relations & Investment strategy and programs.  This is an exciting new role supporting MPC’s Sustainability Strategic Pillar by elevating MPC’s CSR vision to enhance our ESG profile and reputation, support our communities and stakeholders, and promote sustainable growth.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Establish and manage the enterprise-wide Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Community Relations & Investment vision, strategy and multi-year implementation plan
  • Evaluate current state and collaborate with senior leaders to reset the strategy for community investment and employee volunteerism in alignment with MPC and MPLX priorities
  • Oversee and facilitate governance structure inclusive of executive level steering committees (e.g., MPC Foundation Board), various senior level working groups and planning committees; oversee multi-million-dollar community investment budget (inclusive of MPC Foundation)
  • Partner and collaborate cross functionally to develop a cohesive Social Vision and narrative to advance MPC’s ESG profile
  • Represent MPC in industry trade organization workgroups and other appropriate forums related to CSR
  • Provide regular updates to executive management on the effectiveness of CSR plans and provide insights and content to inform reporting to MPC’s Board of Directors
  • Align CSR strategies and activities with broader stakeholder engagement and ESG strategies and goals; provide support to various internal organizations and stakeholders on CSR related issues
  • Lead a team of regionally based CSR representatives responsible for planning, budgeting and executing community investments and community relations plans at the site level
    • Identify high-impact, strategic community investment opportunities while developing key partnerships in the communities in which we operate
    • Plan and execute community relations and investments in collaboration with site leadership, Government Affairs and Human Resources
    • Execute employee giving and volunteerism programs that enhance employee engagement, as well as MPC’s profile in the community
  • Develop measurement framework to identify and communicate value of CSR activities, and track and report progress against goals with internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide content for the annual Sustainability report and various internal and external communications highlighting key CSR and Community Relations activities and results
  • Review best practices and develop policies, standards and programs to advance CSR for the organization
  • Monitor external global CSR trends, both within and outside of industry, and make recommendations for continuously improving our approaches

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • 10-15 years of relevant experience in CSR, Community Relations, Communications or Corporate Affairs.
    • 8 years of demonstrated experience in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility and Community Relations, leading programs and initiatives focused on a range of issues and topics
    • 8 years of experience in the energy industry (oil & gas, power generation, utilities or renewables)
    • 4 years of experience leading and supervising teams with proven ability to develop and nurture high performing teams
  • Experience managing large, and highly visible strategies, programs and projects that require working across departments, managing teams and multiple priorities and timelines
  • Strong internal and external relationship building skills and comfort interacting with all levels of an organization and leading teams with ‘informal authority’
  • Strategic thinking: Understands the current state and can conceptualize and build consensus to achieve an ideal state; strong ability to think strategically and connect the dots
  • Communications: Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to generate support across an organization, including with senior and executive leaders
  • Organization: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and sense of urgency; takes the initiative to build structures, processes, policies and procedures applying expertise and insights gathered through collaboration and listening
  • Conceptual/Systems Thinking: Recognizes patterns, trends, themes, and connections in information to develop innovative ideas and solutions
  • Analytical thinking/problem solving: Accurately assesses problems and effectively and efficiently arrives at solutions applying expertise and strong judgement
  • A collegial work style and a willingness to perform a wide range of tasks and a strong willingness to advance knowledge
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Proficiency with Tableau is a plus
