L.L.Bean is currently searching for a Corporate Sustainability Program Lead to join the Sustainability and Global Compliance team located in Freeport, Maine.


Position Purpose:  In this important role this person will be responsible for monitoring and benchmarking the environmental sustainability landscape, and assisting in development of L.L.Bean’s corporate sustainability strategy and priorities. Collaborate cross functionally to plan, execute and monitor initiatives to drive impact in line with corporate goals. Drive stakeholder engagement, both internally and externally through clear, up to date, and engaging communication.


  • Strategy Development and Implementation
    • Partner with senior leaders, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to create, maintain and implement a strategic framework for Corporate Sustainability in line with Corporate Goals and other Social Impact areas
    • Partner in the development of sustainability related metrics and ongoing monitoring, measurement and reporting of results
  • Program Management
    • Engage with functions to monitor sustainability projects throughout the company
    • Potentially serve as Project Manager on sustainability related initiatives
    • Work cross functionally to assess, vet, and refine project plans and goals related to Sustainability projects and communication
  • Internal/External Communications
    • Ensure consistency and timeliness of public communication/information related to sustainability efforts across PR, Marketing, etc.
    • Respond to internal and external requests for information related to corporate sustainability
    • Drive internal engagement and awareness by partnering with internal communications team to highlight efforts and impact
  • Employee Engagement and Impact – Green Ambassador Program
    • Share corporate updates with internal Green Ambassador teams throughout the company
    • Drive engagement with employees by hearing and helping with initial vetting of ideas, facilitating guest speakers/learning opportunities and activities, and answering questions from employees
    • Find creative ways to measure impact of employee efforts
  • Industry Knowledge and Benchmarking
    • Lead or participate in the completion of benchmark surveys, collaborating with internal partners to collect data and information for submissions and communicate about results.
    • Conduct internal and external benchmarking; network within the corporate sustainability practitioner community and organizations to obtain and consistently communicate relevant best practices and trends
  • Other Responsibilities
    • Coach others through program management process – planning, execution, and reporting
    • Other duties as assigned

Education Level: 4-Year Bachelors’ Degree

Years of Experience: 3+ years

Skills and Qualifications:

  • BA/BS or equivalent
  • Foundational understanding of environmental sustainability concepts
  • Ability to develop practices, policies and programs that support corporate sustainability
  • Strong project management skills applied in a business/corporate environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build confidence, communicate, partner, and collaborate with individuals throughout an organization
  • Proven team player and collaborator. Work well with a team, be self-directed, and demonstrate excellent judgment
  • Ability to work with and influence leadership at all levels
  • Strong facilitation and communications skills; ability to effectively present and execute innovative ideas
  • Ability to influence and be a change agent while identifying and addressing structural challenges and barriers
