CARE’s policy and advocacy department works to galvanize the social and political will necessary to create an enabling policy environment at all levels that supports the realization of our vision: a world of hope, tolerance and social justice, where poverty has been overcome and all people live with dignity and security.

 

In order to build that political will, CARE strives to develop effective gender-just strategies and approaches, generate evidence of impact, and build strategic partnerships for scale-up and campaigning.

 

This pivotal position will partner and ally with regional colleagues to ensure implementation of key regional advocacy strategies in five geographic regions (MENA, LAC, West Africa, Southern Africa and Asia) and lend direction and support to colleagues based in regional offices to build advocacy capacity and facilitate peer-to-peer learning. S/he will manage the global advocacy team’s operations and strengthen CARE’s advocacy community of practice. Secondarily, s/he will provide direct support through policy analysis and technical assistance to advance efforts to take CARE’s programs to scale via policy change at the national, regional and global level. The Deputy Director serves as a critical link between US based advocacy colleagues and other CARE Member Partners to advance local to global advocacy objectives, and will provide that local to global connection to advance our CARE International policy agenda.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • External representation
  • Strategic thinking
  • Ten years of previous professional experience in a similar position or an equivalent combination of work and volunteer experience that has included responsibility for activities or outcomes other than academic assignments
  • Planning, budgeting, advocacy experience
  • Managing people and processes
  • Global advocacy campaigning
  • Solid writing, oral communication, Internet, spreadsheet, and organizational skills
  • Sound judgement; discretion
  • Ability to function in complex, changing environments, and to work with diverse groups as well as independently
  • Attention to detail
