POSITION SUMMARY

Americans for Tax Fairness and Health Care for America Now, national coalitions active on high-profile federal tax reform and health care issues at the national and state levels, are seeking a digital organizer with two years or more of experience in political and/or advocacy communications for a joint organizing project. You must have good communications, strategy and messaging skills, solid experience with social media, be a good writer for the general public, and be comfortable operating in a fast-paced, campaign-style environment working with state and national partners. This is a full-time exempt position preferably located in Washington, D.C.; it may be remote but must operate on east coast hours. The position reports to Americans for Tax Fairness’ Digital Strategy Director working directly with staff from Healthcare for America Now and Americans for Tax Fairness. It offers a salary of up to $60,000, depending on experience, and a competitive benefits package that includes employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance, 3% employer match on 401k contributions, pre-tax transportation benefits, and paid holidays, vacation, sick, and volunteer time off.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

  • Coordinate digital work on tax and healthcare issues in states (75% of time)

 

  • Collaborate with state-based groups that have a respectable digital presence
  • Research state-based groups, networks, media influencers like reporters and columnists, as well as other individuals who may be opinion leaders or key operators. Create networks and build relationships with influencers for message outreach
  • Utilize proprietary software for Twitter to advance agendas, mobilize activists and pressure members of Congress
  • Synthesize multiple issue areas into compelling social media materials
  • Promote events, reports, content, and articles to empower state-level allies
  • Report to staff on progress, assess successes and failures as project strategy builds

 

 

  • Assist in production of digital content (25% of time)

 

  • Draft written and graphic content for Americans for Tax Fairness
  • Coordinate content as needed with Health Care for America Now team particularly on legislative rapid response
  • Stay abreast of news/current events and social media best practices

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

 

  • Minimum of two years employment in non-profits, issue campaigns, electoral campaigns and/or Congress focused on digital media and/or media relations 
  • Proven ability to write well for social media and other communications 
  • Proven ability to create engaging social media graphics for Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
  • Experience using social media for advocacy purposes
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, HTML, and CMS/CRM platforms such as WordPress and Action Network
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, and manage multiple priorities and projects effectively
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
