PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

  • The Director, Government Affairs will support the development and implementation of a proactive, well-communicated, comprehensive federal regulatory and legislative policy presence in support of FMCNA’s products and services
  • The Director, Government Affairs is responsible for helping to develop and implement federal legislative, and political strategies to support corporate goals. In addition they are responsible for engaging with internal and external stakeholders in furtherance of such initiatives.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Builds and maintains FMCNA relationships with members of Congress and staff
  • Provides strategic advice and intelligence to FMCNA Federal Affairs
  • Represents FMCNA at FRE- PAC activities
  • Assists in the communication and broad understanding of legislative positions to Congress.
  • Implements either directly or through related intermediaries (e.g. lobbyists, or other consultants) influence on the outcome of such proposed changes in line with the company’s position.
  • Provides an active voice for the company in policy formulation, by being an active spokesperson/advocate in the Washington DC environment.
  • Liaison with industry coalitions and other organizations concerned about governmental activities which affect FMCNA businesses.
  • Monitors major public policy and industry trends and developments to assess opportunities for and threats to FMCNA’s business.
  • Assists in the development of business initiatives to capitalize on such opportunities and to minimize such threats.
  • Assists in the development of government affairs messaging for FMCNA employees,
  • Represents FMCNA to outside organizations on legislative and advocacy topics.
  • Assists with various projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION:

  • Reports to Vice President Government Affairs

 

 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Advanced Degree preferred in a related field (for e.g. healthcare, public policy, health policy and political science)

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 5- 8 years’ related experience. Experience in healthcare policy/government fields preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of management through diplomacy and tact.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated awareness of related laws and regulations that govern FMCNA’s business and the legislative process, including related committee structures and the roles of other important influencers in that process.
  • Knowledge of Congress,  relevant federal agencies and the regulatory process, preferred.
