The Director, Brand Communications and Advocacy/Alliance Engagement is a strategic role supporting the Head of Corporate Affairs, Respiratory. This role will develop all brand and therapeutic area communications – internal and external – and patient/professional group engagement. Will represent and guide all aspects of communications and advocacy group engagement related to the respiratory portfolio across the company: brands, media, internal communications, advocacy, corporate reputation, policy and medical community. This ideal candidate is a highly strategic, dynamic public affairs and communications professional who can leverage their deep understanding and know-how in stakeholder engagement with strong communication skills and experiences to collaborate and engage with others to drive results and deliver for the business.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage and implement integrated communications and patient group engagement strategies and plans to support the goals of the respiratory portfolio
  • Work closely with the Senior Manager, Advocacy and Alliance to ensure integration and effective relationship building across all respiratory and appropriate vertical groups including advancing partnerships and impact reporting
  • Serve as a strategic steward of the US Contributions Program providing guidance and recommendations for contributions support within the respiratory therapeutic area and coordination of impact reporting
  • In coordination with the Senior Manager, Advocacy and Alliance represent the company and build relationships with key patient and professional groups to drive AstraZeneca leadership in respiratory
  • Coordinate the development of all internal and external communications on behalf of the respiratory portfolio to drive awareness around data, brand milestones and patient programs and materials by collaborating with the Senior Manager and Manager of Brand Communications in Respiratory
  • Create and develop internal communication strategies to engage and educate employees on behalf of the respiratory portfolio
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the Director, External Communications to prepare media and issues management materials as appropriate
  • Represent US Corporate Affairs at Respiratory leadership team meetings as appropriate and in coordination with the Head of Corporate Affairs, Respiratory
  • Serve as day to day contact for agency partners to ensure delivery of projects and programs within budget and on schedule
  • Partner with global communication colleagues (media relations, brand communications, policy and advocacy) to ensure alignment and engagement on US and Global corporate affairs activities

Essential Requirements

  • BS in Marketing, Communications or related field
  • Minimum of 7+ years’ experience demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility in corporate affairs, public affairs, corporate communications and issues management
  • Experience working in or on behalf of patient advocacy and/or professional associations
  • Effective communicator and storyteller
  • Knowledge of and direct experience working with patient advocacy groups to develop and deliver programs and projects
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to navigate complex and matrixed organizations
  • Amenable to travel and after hours work and weekend responsibilities  – up to 20% travel required

Desirable Requirements

  • Healthcare PR agency experience
  • Experience reviewing or applying for grants or corporate funding
  • Experience managing corporate responsibility programs and initiatives
