To better serve our team members and clients, we are looking for a Director of Communication to join and strengthen our corporate team. The Director of Communication will serve as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert. This person will work directly with our marketing, human resources, finance and operations executive leaders and teams to craft and deliver transparent and authentic communication to improve both the employee and client experience. Communication is at the heart of everything we do.

Description of Position Responsibilities
As the Director of Communications, your typical responsibilities will include: • Providing expert assistance by acting as a communications advisor, supporting the development and implementation of internal and external communications programs and strategies. • Providing strategic counsel on internal and external initiatives, drafting content for executives, managers, and employees, and overseeing editorial content. • Serving as a key project team member for company-wide in-person and virtual events. • Managing communications for sensitive change management issues, employee relations matters, etc. • Serving as a mentor for others. • Developing strategies to drive traffic to and improve the usage of Corporate Communications vehicles. • Staying informed of best practices in both internal and external communications, making recommendations for new strategies, programs, tactics, and tools. • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Technical Skills Required
The ideal candidate has:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, or related field.
A minimum of 10 years of prior experience in Communications and 5 years in a leadership role such as Communications Director or equivalent.
A strong track record as an implementer, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, assignments, and initiatives simultaneously.
Excellent self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact and coach others effectively, persuasively, and tactfully.
Ability to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives with measurable results.
Wants to be part of a dynamic leadership team to help build and revitalize SME and our communities. Humble, hungry, flexible, and resilient.
Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.
Advanced writing, editing, and presentations skills.
Advanced level of proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and various design programs.
Ability to travel as needed throughout the Great Lakes Region
