Job Description

The Director of Communications and Marketing will be a strategic thinker and critical asset to IME in helping communicate the positive story about the commercial explosives industry. The ideal candidate will be an experienced self-starter with a proven record of successfully implementing a communications and marketing strategy using a wide variety of platforms, products, and approaches, including newsletters, website content, social media platforms, paid advertising, press releases, op-eds, presentations, and media relations. The Director will also have a familiarity with public policy and advocacy.

Key responsibilities for the Director include the development and distribution of a weekly newsletter to membership, blog postings, issue briefs, membership marketing materials, web content & design, presentation materials, and drafting press releases & statements.

A key member of the IME team, the Director will work collaboratively with colleagues to remain up to date on key issues in the industry and develop a strong knowledge base about the commercial explosives industry.

The Director will report to the President.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement a communications and marketing strategy for IME
  • Establish and oversee a style guide for IME to ensure branding and identity is consistent across all communications
  • Develop and maintain membership marketing toolkit
  • Develop a plan to market IME meetings, events, and webinars
  • Ensure all IME materials follow brand guidelines
  • Develop and implement a marketing plan for IME products and publications
  • Manage IME website to ensure content is up to date
  • Develop and maintain the calendar for IME communications to members
  • Assist with online programs and events
  • Create and post new and engaging content across all platforms including social media, website and email
  • Utilize metrics to improve engagements on various media platforms
  • Assist government affairs team with the development of issue briefs/talking points
  • Write and distribute press releases to media; function as point of contact for all media inquiries.
  • Manage media lists, thought leader contacts, and develop relationships with key influencers (traditional and social media)

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English or related field
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to develop original content that engages the audience
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and Canva
  • Knowledge of web publishing and design
  • Critical thinker and problem solver
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Attention to detail
  • Sense of humor
  • Proficiency with popular content management systems
  • Experience with social media management
