As a Director, Communications MMGA at GlaxoSmithKline you will be aligned to the US External Communications Center of Excellence and directly support the Managed Markets & Government Affairs US Business Unit (BU).  You will play a key role in understanding, assessing, strategizing and developing communication plans and messages to support ongoing issues management in health policy and price/value areas impacting GSK.  As part you will develop and maintain relationships with key journalists/media outlets, make recommendations of how to manage, develop the support comms, seek approval/alignment and inform stakeholders, and work closely with the SVP of Managed Markets & Government Affairs.  As a member of the External Comms Center of Excellence, this communicator will help drive the execution of the overall external communications strategy by developing content and manage the processes necessary to support an effective external media relations presence for GSK in the US.

  • Strategizes and develops communications plans and messages to support ongoing issues management.
  • Provides counsel and advice on MMGA issues to both the MMGA team and the Head of US Corporate Communications and senior leadership regarding the environment from a health policy and price value lens
  • Understand the landscape from a health policy and price value perspective and work closely with the Government Affairs and Public Policy teams in the US to assess potential impact on GSK.
  • Act as a key media spokesperson on issues related to the US environment/pricing matters
  • Sit on the Foundation Board for GSK’s Patient Assistance Programs
  • Manage the approval processes of content for media relations (press releases, Q&A, reactive statements)
  • Prepare communications materials and briefing packs in preparation for senior leader speaking engagements/media engagements, including the Quarter Earnings Report & Stakeholder Report
  • Serve as the key liaison with PhRMA’s communication office
  • Support the development of external GSK spokespeople and external speaking events/appearances with content and message development
  • Cultivate and build strong, positive relationships with MMGA and key stakeholders and with communications partners.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or liberal arts focus (e.g., English/writing, government/history,)
  • Minimum 10 years of communications related experience, including demonstrated expertise in at least three of the following areas:
    • Pharmaceutical knowledge
    • Policy experience.
    • Experience in media relations/outreach
    • Patient advocacy and consumer engagement
    • Launch and/or employee communications planning and execution
    • Strategic and creative thinker who knows how to construct compelling stories that will resonate with both external/internal audiences and can manage a deliberate development process, including strong project management skills
    • Proven experience developing content across a range of platforms and media

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Additional training/education in communications, business, or healthcare
  • PR agency experience
  • Excellent communications track-record and relationships
  • Agile and quick learner with an ability to prioritize competing issues and tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills with multiple and diverse stakeholders
  • Strong logistics and organization skills
