Director Corporate Public Policy
Responsible for directing the WGL Holdings’ public policy program, strategies and functional roles including federal, state and local government relations, for the utility and its affiliate companies. Directs the enterprises public policy planning and coordinates the execution of the annual public policy agenda. Provides counsel to senior executives on corporate-wide issues management, external relations and strategic communications matters to help shape and position corporate views among key stakeholders nationally and locally. In conjunction with unit heads and affiliates, develops advocacy strategies and initiatives targeting key external stakeholders and policy influencers. Represents the company on national, regional and state business, civic and public policy organizations. Provides organizational leadership and direction of the company’s political action committee, responsible for program planning, fundraising and financial reporting and administration.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Leads and conducts the corporate-wide public policy planning exercise to develop annual agenda. Serves as principal liaison to senior federal and state government officials, including legislative and executive branches of government.
Advocates directly before federal, state and local legislative and executive branch agencies.
Directs the tactical execution of the annual public policy agenda.
Directs periodic briefings to senior executives on key bills and other legislative initiatives.
Conducts complex analysis of legislative and other government-sponsored initiatives to determine impact on the company.
Prepares testimony, speeches and other public communications for senior executives.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
Bachelors Degree with a minimum ten (10) years experience in corporate public affairs
Ability to provide strategic direction and guidance on complex business matters
Acknowledged proficiency in building and executing successful lobbying and community outreach strategies.
